After waiting on a list of parts to arrive, they've come in! I replaced the busted passenger corner lens with a new one (thanks don_dowdy) and I installed the brand new regulator I bought for the passenger door since it was way too messed up to reuse. I was feeling confident until I got a look at some dickering done by the PO. Turns out the regulator that was in there was so f'd up that he actually had to remove the metal bar siliconed to the window and move it a few inches backward just so it would stay closed :die That means when I put the new regulator in there it didnt line up at all (the blue is where the support is currently glued and the red arrow is where it's supposed to be...) So I took the window to a local glass shop to have them redo it because I'm not going to be the idiot to break it :lol I'll pick it up tomorrow hopefully in one piece

You can see the new regulator peeking out the bottom

It would be nice if just ONCE someone didn't do something retarded to a metro...a dream I guess

The challenge is the price point. Vehicles that are significantly more expensive usually get someone with some skill level or who recognizes that they don't have the skill level to make a repair/modification so they hire it done (this does not mean there are no badly done things that happen, just that there are fewer). Metros are way down the value food chain and thus have to suffer from the "experimenters" who really shouldn't be touching anything...

Today I focused mainly on the mechanical aspects of the car. The first thing I did was inspect the PCV valve which was 100% clogged and appeared to be original to the car so out that went in a hurry! Got a nice new shiny one put in there and cleaned the crap out of the tube going to and from it (also clogged). Found out that the car has a brand new air filter, new charcoal canister and lines, new battery, new clutch arm, new coolant hoses, recent coolant flush, recent brake fluid flush (crystal clear), a block heater, and to top it all off an apparent recent rebuild :ermm: I looked at the cam and it sparkles like a diamond not to mention the pure honey colored oil (and every single gasket is new and rubbery) so someone either rebuilt this engine in the last year or knows the secret to keeping a metro flawless forever. Very strange and certainly not the work of the PO, which makes sense because he only had this car for a month so he said. This car does not leak even a drop of oil, I made sure of this by parking it over a large piece of butcher paper bricked to the ground and in the 2 weeks I've left it there I don't see even a drop of oil anywhere. This car is amazingly well cared for...mechanically at least.

Here's the old PCV

And a nice new one

and an engine bay shot, pretty clean for being 21 years old! That's a block heater to the left (the cord wrapped around the radiator support)

Due to a large delay at the window company I had to work on something else today. So I decided that nasty radio situation needed attending to. First I needed to find a proper cage/mount setup since the one that used to be there is currently MIA. A pm to member Mythstae (our resident radio persons) yielded me the exact parts I needed in barely a week and they got here super fast! I got to work quickly and the whole operation took maybe 35 minutes. Needed to clean up some wiring, reconnect the cigarette outlet (no wonder it didn't work) and slap it all back together. The only problem now is I need a new radio bezel because this one is :shit This is going to be a quest...

This is how my radio started...flaccid and un-aroused with audio pleasure

Posted Image

Then I ripped it all apart and did a little bit of wiring (mostly soldering and reconnecting the cigarette outlet)

Posted Image

Here's the parts Mythstae sent, all nice and strongly machined

And finally here's the result, the way it should have been in the first place! Now just gotta find me a radio bezel (good luck)

Thanks everybody :thumb Not much to report this week, got the window back and put it all back together, works 100% better now! :rocker Today while getting out of the car I snapped the interior door handle clean off...so I ordered a new set on eBay for only $18 shipped! Not a bad deal. Waiting on a radio bezel to arrive and that's it for now :news

Well, with the cat out of the bag;

This is the OFFICIAL THREAD JACKING!!!

The "teal menace" now "TEX", is housed here in the north. Thank you Aaron!

TEX will not see snow, but from the garage. We did get rained on all the way home from the Minnesota meet, and with Barney down for tranny help, all of yesterday. I am sure that this is more moisture than this car has seen in a long time.

I purchased the Teal Menace from Aaron back in March of this year, keeping it under wraps until the Minnesota Metro Meet.

When I saw Aaron had him up for sale, I contacted him and we worked it out. After a LOOOOONG bus ride of 2 days, 1 hour and 25 minutes, I arrived in El Paso at 9:30am, where Aaron met me. I had planned to be on the road by noon, but, we all know how it goes when a couple of metro heads get together! It was about 5pm when I finally rolled. With 1800 miles to go I set off. The trip started off with a minor scare. Aaron warned, "the shifter seems to hang up a little now and then", Hmm, wasn't doing it any more, so off into the Texas dessert we go. Not far outta El Paso, SHHHit, shoulda looked into that. The shoulder bolt for the shift linkage had dropped out. OK, Mr. McGiver, WHAT Ya going to do now? I brought two small boxes of tools with me on the bus, but the one thing I had forgotten to bring........a shoulder bolt, well WTF ya going to do now? Lucky for me I did have a spare "Marzel Vane for the turbo encabulator" (see 'pix from MMM') which I was able to fashion into a shoulder bolt, and off I went. With that one small problem out of the way, it was clear sailing for the next 1775 miles. I made the rest of the trip safely and problem free, with the "marzel vane" installed all the way home.

I bet that induced some slop into the shifting.

I knew something was up with the shifter! After the clutch was replaced so was the clutch arm and a few other bits and it would hang up once every few hundred shifts so I kept thinking something wasn't tight but I couldn't find anything wrong. Guess we know what it was :smackface Glad you made it out of that jam and all the way home. Steve updated me as often as possible to make sure he got there safe

It was nice meeting Steve and like he said the metro talk, once started, was not stopping haha. It was a great time and I'm super happy he not only loves the teal menace but also is taking excellent care of it (look at those slick hubcaps and new hood!) :rocker This car loves being driven long distances and will do it without complaint (which it does a lot of now haha). Took a little bit for us to recognize each other at the bus depot but I told him all he had to do was look for the hunter s thompson looking guy in a leather jacket and we got right to the metros :lol Can't wait to see more progress!

well, A, you caught a couple of the things I got done before the MMM. I fully expected to have a brand new hood, but they shipped me a suzy hood, so just days before the meet I found that one. I am hoping to have a new one shortly, then this one will go onto the XFI, it needs and deserves it.

I also installed the red tail light center piece, cargo cover, and tach cluster.

I thought I had a locking glovebox door, but I have not been able to find it.

I know what you mean - Steve can be pretty difficult to pick out of a crowd... :lol

Has to be good to know your car is in such good hands. :thumb

YES, it did. but options were thin. you can have all the tools in the world, but in the dessert outside El Paso, without a vehicle in sight, I was quite glad that my flashlight had that nifty lanyard attachment. 1800 miles later, I am quite glad to have the correct shoulder bolt installed.

I am SO glad that it waited to drop out until after I made it over the Franklin mountain.

say it with me........ MacGyver!

Oh, yea, forgot to mention, ah, umm, I wasn't sure the best way to transport TEX home, so I was running the plates from my green 93. green 94, I figured, even a GMF member would have a hard time telling the difference. just about then, broke down on the roadside, COP MAGNET, my other choice was a shoe lace and some creative macramé.
