Thanks all for your help. If I use the 12V and starter leads that go to the column for the switch, would that get me what I am looking for? Just looking for the easiest possible route. |

If you start with unaltered original wiring, take the small wire off of the starter and use it to control the relay. The clutch safety switch will still work and the ignition switch will still work normally as well. If you want to use the button, (or the start portion of the ignition switch is worn out) wire one side of the button with "key on" 12v and the other goes to the relay to switch it on. You can also wire it into the start wire from the ignition switch to give an either or set up (the ignition switch is still able to start the car or the button can be used to start the car) just be sure you are adding the button wire to the ignition wire coming from the ignition switch, not going to the switch or you will have to turn the key and push the button. |

Thanks for all your help. If I am using unaltered factory wiring, can't I just put my button in between 12V and the start wire from the ignition switch and call it good? |

That is a lot of current going through the button. You would only do that with a horn button or similar high power handling button. You were also talking about wanting to retain the clutch safety switch. Using a relay makes it so you can use whatever button you like without worrying about burning it up. This is part of why there is an issue with the factory wiring, they went with the smallest wire size that would work and over time resistance builds up in the connectors and the wires and pretty soon, the starter doesn't work right. They did the same thing with the headlight wiring. Relays take the load off of the undersized wires and allows you to provide larger wires with more direct power from the battery. |

Yep, that is a high current switch and there should be no issue using it for an extended time. |
