Charging System Still Not Working

I wonder if the voltage regulator is just a piece a junk, I've had alternators bench tests as "good"but in service would discharge intermittently, replaced alternator and no discharge problem no more..

The VR is part of the alternator, which has been replaced, along with the battery, all the relays and fuses, and the ignition switch. All the grounds have been removed, cleaned and reapplied. Connectors have been removed, inspected, cleaned and reconnected multiple times. I have put my hand on ( I think) every inch of the applicable wiring looking for cracks, breaks, loose connections, etc. This issue goes away for weeks at a time and then shows back up.

Yes I know the VR is an ic, an internal component of the alternator, if it was a new one I would insist on an exchange, it should have a lifetime warranty, it's the only constant in this whole scenario.. Please do keep us posted, inquiring minds want to know, good luck..

I'm about 3 alternators into this, so I'm pretty confident its not the VR. If anyone needs me I'll be the guy curled up under the bed crying.
The good news is, more or less through all of this I have been able to drive it back and forth to work as long as I keep an eye on the voltage and remember to recharge the battery as necessary. And of course some days it does just fine on its own. For weeks on end.
Did I mention that whether its charging or not, the charge light doesn't come on, but if, say, I take the serpentine belt off I get the charge light? So whatever its doing is on the other side of that indicator.

Have you had the battery checked to make sure it is good? When it doesn't charge have you checked the voltage at the alternator? The wire that goes back to the fuse box. See if the voltage is the same at the alternator and the fuse box.
