Mystery wire; mystery wire on the pasenger side

There is a white-ish wire on the passenger side of the engine, and it plugs into a small metal nipple just below the throttle body. It was covered up by a humongous rubber boot until the wire broke and the boot was removed to repair it. Apparently my repair job wasn't as solid as I thought and while troubleshooting another problem the wire broke again. Any idea what it is and what it does?

If you can, take a pic...but it sounds like the A/C cut off switch, cuts it off if the engine gets to hot... :type

Sorry I didn't get back on this. It's a cooling sensor of some kind. It screws out of the body and looks like a little copper cylinder. Without it, your temp gauge doesn't work.

Everything you describe about it points to what Geogonfa said - A/C Engine Coolant Temperature shutoff switch (A/C ECT), except for this latest comment ...

Are you saying you observed this behavior directly, i.e., you connected the wire, checked the gauge and it worked, then disconnected it and the gauge then didn't work? :hmm

What "other problem" were you working on when it broke again?

The wire itself broke during my alternator troubleshooting. I didn't notice the broken wire right away, but I did notice my gauge wasn't working. Replaced the wire, gauge came back.

Sorry for any confusion on my part. Maybe a picture will help someone else identify it?

The only 1995 Suzuki wiring diagrams I have show the same "system" for the gauge as the 1994 and earlier that have the gauge sensor in the thermostat housing - "near the distributor" as the 1995 diagram describes it. :dunno
