Fuel Gauge acting all funny and stuff

As the title states, my fuel gauge is acting all kinds of funky. When it decides to act up, it's very sporadic; it'll be a fuel tank and then quickly the needle will go all the way to the bottom and stay there for a while... (until one day it magically decides to act normal). I figured maybe it's time to change the sending unit and the pump (330k on the car...), but haven't been able to find a replacement for the sending unit... Do our cars have one or is it built into the pump or something?

However you might want to check electrical connections under the hood and through the car, all the way back to the tank, before you drop the tank. :dunno

Thanks for the response... Is it a long list of points/places to check for connections?

I guess my other question is are you aware of where I could buy a new one, RockAuto and other sources don't seem to sell a sending unit (if they ever did).

FSM section 8A-81, Electrical Diagnosis, Instrument cluster with Gauges shows other than at the cluster and sending unit itself, connector C203, (20 Cavities), I/P Harness to Floor Harness, near Junction Block, and

Ground G202, Left of Cigar Lighter on I/P Support

8A-202 Electrical Diagnosis, Harness Connector Faces Connector 203 on page 7.

:gp Thanks myredvert. :thumb

:smackface The other option is to start at the gas tank, what you can get to under the rear seat, and work your way forward.

If you don't have an FSM try an eBay search under 1994 geo metro manual service and 1994 geo metro manual shop
