Except we are all a family and we stick up for one another and we really don't have time to help someone who doesn't appreciate it. I would be very surprised if anyone provides you with anything useful at this point, especially since whatever they do will get this kind of response. The squeaky wheel gets the lube... The whiny wheel gets ignored. |

Well it obvious no on is able or willing to answer my original questions. So I will leave all of you to your "family" and their drama. If anyone wants to be helpful you can PM me other than that I wont be responding to anyone's remarks. |

"Learn to read." "Witch tells me you really dont know whats going on but instead you just decided to be a smart ass....." "Seriously I dont have time for you smart ass replies. If you dont want to help that is fine but quit posting useless remarks. They do nothing but make an already BS situation worse....." " but can you read and answer my questions? I have an idea what to look for but I can't proceed while playing twenty questions. Im not trying to be an ass but everyone i talk to has to ask me questions before I can get an answer. It really pisses me off because its like no one listens anymore. I'm not saying you don't because you obviously have read what i wrote. But I still need an answer" "Thats funny I dont remember talking to YOU. So if you have an issue with the way i respond to SOMEONE ELSE, to bad." Is this the drama you are speaking of? |

FTFY I guess you mean the "drama" where our family regularly helps others get their Metro problems figured out and resolved in a friendly, respectful, and often fun way, with the help of people who are often willing to take their personal time and go well out of their way to help others resolve their car issues? |

Okay, just my $.02... lets see if the questions can be answered. we are not mind readers and we cannot give you a quick fix to electical problems, if we ask you to double check something it's only because we are not there to see what your up against. we need the info to better assist you...so lets restart this subject and try to work on this info...all I am asking is for you to clarify the questions so we can help you... 1: SHOULD my dash lights work with the dimmer switch removed? no, but if they do, then you have a short somewhere. are they staying on or working at all? a: If not how can i bypass it until i get a new one? r/g to r/y but this NOT recommended until you determine if the rheostat is faulty. a simple DVOM meter can help you determine this. please post your findings. 2: If I have to "HIT" the rear light housing to get the turn light to work, should i look for a bad ground? need more info such as which/what rear light housing? are we talking about the tail lamp housing? left or right? and are all the lights in the mentioned housing not working? or are both sides not working? a: If so, isn't the ground a wire that runs back to the dash? all Metros run on a positive circuit, thus flipping the circuit to a ground to activate it...read this for grounds info: http://geometroforum.com/topic/5720306/1/#new B: If so, where should i look? again lack of info, refer back to #2 3: Since my rear park lights were working is it safe to assume that the front ones have no affect on them no longer working? are both not working at this time? a: If the front park lights do affect them, what should I look for to get the rear/front park lights working? again more info is needed, this is separate issue that has nothing to do with the dash lights, are you saying you don't have any running lights as well as no dash lights? is this an isolated problem or a left/right, front/rear problem, or both? helping in the repairing of electrical systems over the internet is difficult to do without precise info. Note: I understand you stated you don't have any extra for a FSM, but use caution...Haynes or Chiltons are filled with a lot of errors. |

Thank you for trying to answer my original questions. The reassion I was asking about the dimmer switch is because the dash lights were working until i removed the dash and broke the switch. I know i stated this in my first posting. But its nice to know what wires i can jump to make it work for a sec. As for "hitting the rear housing its both rear ones like i said but its only the turn signals i had problems with. The tail/ park and reverse lights did work as well as the haz. Now for the park lights.... none work now but when i bought the car only the fronts dident work. The rear ones did. This is why i asked if the fronts affected the rears....... Im not trying to be an ass but I did state all this before. But thanks for staying with me anyways. |

just another suggestion...check the light switch itself, and the circuits associated...

I did take out the switch that controls the park, headlights, hazards, and test each connection on the switch. It works fine. The dimmer/ turn switch works too. |

then next, check and chase the wires, sounds like there maybe one or more pinched or rubbed through...here is where a good wiring diagram is needed...first place to look would be behind the lower rear plastic panel, the one in which spans across the back below the hatch...remove the panel and disconnect each tail lamp wiring connector and hook up your volt meter to test to see if they work without being plugged in...

Ok got some work done on the car. Found that someone at some point had a trailer harness wired into the rear lights. They left it connected at the lights but cut it off by the drivers door next to the main harness. Took this out and got all of the rear lamps working. The fronts still dont work at all. Not with turn signals, park lamps or hazards. Also on my dash my left turn indicator works but not my right. I should also mention my dash lights dont work either but im thinking this is because I broke my dimmer switch. On the plus side I got some projector lenses put in as well as some 90/130 H4 bulbs put in. so the headlights are at there best. O ya my dome lamp still dont work either. The switches are fine and grounded and the bulb has been replaced. So the fun begins of tracing wires. Any idea where to start for the front lamps? I know I have power to the switch and fuse box so do I start from the lamp and work backwards? |

Well im sure I have a short in the tail lamp wires though I cant find it. I keep poping fuses and my test light comes on when i put it in place of the fuse ( but its not very bright). I tried to use a 39A fuse to see if the lights worked and they do. But the wire from the switch got hot so Im not useing it that way. Also I can hear the drivers seat belt retractor click, and the chime sound off when I had the fuse in. So I know the wireing is conected but I cant find the short. Any ideas where to look? |
