Proper PSI for 155/80R13 tires

Okay so forgive me for my noobishness. My 1992 geo metro hatch has some 155/80R13 tires slapped onto it. They say that they're from a Suzuki swift (I'm guessing wrecker yard paint pen)
I looked up 155/80R13 and the recommendation for front and rear is 33.

Inside the door hinge of my actual geo it says the recommended psi for front and rear is 29. But would it be recommended 29 psi for the factory stock tires that it came with? So it doesn't apply because there are different tires on it now?

So which one do I go by? or do I fill it up to somewhere in the middle like 31?
A lot of my driving is done on the highway but a bit of it is still done in the city. Any recommendations?

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Proper is whatever you want. 30 is an easy number, a lot of us run 40+ psi for the fuel mileage benefits.

40+ would be for better mileage? Is there any risk associated with this? These tires say max 44.
Do you think 30 or 32 is better?

If you put them at 30, they will be at 32 after a nice long drive. It really doesn't matter. Get them close to 30ish and you'll be okay.

working at a tire shop them you can run them at 40 but its safer at 35 since u will get longer life out of them

33 is what the manufacturer recommends, but is mostly for comfort. 40 will give you better mileage with no down side except ride quality.

I run 50. I think you could go up to 70 but don't run them on the interstate for any length of time. Those extreme pressure s are scarey.

:+1

I would call "proper "anywhere from the car manufacturer's recommendation on the low end, to the maximum inflation rating of the tire itself on the high end.

I wouldn't exceed maximum inflation pressure unless you believe that safety margins are really determined by secretaries rolling dice with their eyes closed, and don't really apply to your tires... :O

40 would be safe anymore would be a suspension tester and wrecker

"proper" is what the sidewall of the tires say. The sticker on the car is for the tires that came with it.

Under inflation and you wear the outsides and sidewalls out of the tire faster. Also causes more drag and car will feel heavy. Turning might feel a little harder.

Over inflation and you wear out the center of tire. It will give you less tread actually touching the ground so it will mean less drag, but at the cost of control and braking.

Forget the 155 80 13 tires. Put on some 175 70 13 tires and be amazed at the way it rides and handles. No other tire works as well on a Metro. Still steer easy but the difference in ride and handling tell me this is the tire the car should have had from the factory.

This is not accurate.
