NEXEN 185 60R x 13's on 5.5 x 13 Alloy's don't rub, Feel Great and get the Speedometer back to correct reading according to the local PD Radar Wagon. Car came with 155 80R 12's. They sucked, specially in the rain. |

The NEXEN 662's were a good choice. They are great in the Dry and I've tried everything short of Dumping the clutch to Stomping the Brakes to make them Spin or Skid. Need to find an empty parking lot, the next time it rains for final Testing. |

Glad you like the tires. ![]() Your Metro originally came with 145 80 12s and a white speedometer gear. The new tires are about .6" larger diameter than those, and more than 1" smaller in diameter than 155 80 13s, which would result in either a 2.9% under-reporting error with the original white speedometer gear or a 4.5% over-reporting error if a brown gear has been swapped in for the 155 80 13s. Maybe you got lucky and have that much indicating error in the right that offset it, or your indicated speed control wasn't as precise as you thought when you "checked" it with the radar wagon, or the wagon speed is off a bit? I would check it carefully on the highway using mile markers and/or gps, and the longer distance you check it over the better. |

Thanx for the Tech Tips. My results were based on the 155 80 12's and the 185 60 13's both having an OD of 22.7". I made a road trip a couple years ago and hit a construction zone late at night. Speed limit was 55 but at 60 MPH, a Radar Wagon said I was doing 77 MPH on 175 70 13's. The 185's at least get me back in the ball park. I got 49.11 (adjusted) MPG running 70 MPH on that trip. Could have made the 50 MPG bracket if not for the Ozarks & heavy traffic. I got stuck behind a lot of trucks and pulled long hills in 3rd gear in Missouri. This car rarely gets over 45 MPH so I'm good to go, because now it STOPS faster than it Goes. That's my priority. Stopping before I hit some idiot in the street. |

American Racing Wheels- "Estrella's" J5.5x13. Offset unknown, but they were from a Dodge Colt. I gotta take some measurements, the next time I have them off. That will be next rotation, in about three months.

Update of Speedometer Reading Change due to Oversize Wheels & Tires. According to my NEW Garmin GPS, the MPH is accurate to within 2 MPH up to 55 MPH. |
