I met a guy named Kory who owns a 94 Metro with auto tranny. He picked up the car a year ago and hasn't been able to drive it because the 10amp brake fuse keeps popping when hitting the brakes and turning the right turn signal simultaneously. Obviously when the brake fuse blows he can't shift out of whatever gear he was in at that time until he replaces the fuse. We checked the grounds and connections at the rear of the car. I unplugged his right rear bulb assembly, defrost, and hatch window brake light and had him fire up the car, hit the brake, and turn the signal. Fuse didn't pop, so I thought we isolated the issue to something there. I then REPLACED the right rear bulb assembly, plugged everything back in, and found a green wire that runs to the right bulb assembly AND to the back of the hatch for defrost and the hatch brake light that had some corrosion under the tape. We cleaned that up and he took it for a hard test drive, braking and turn signalling the entire way. Everything seemed fine. Until it popped again on his way home! So now we're going to start working backwards, looking for chaffing or shorts in the harness all the way to the fuse box. I need some help from you guys to see if you ever experienced this problem, and what you've done to fix it. 1) Could a bad turn signal assembly cause a brake fuse to pop? 2) The rear defrost connection point looked a little burnt... 3) Any additional suggestions as to how best to diagnose the issue? ![]() Edited by GeoStalker, Mar 19 2015, 09:27 AM.

Does the fuse only pop when the brake is applied and the turn signal are used together? not separately? |

Yes, that is the combination. And only when the turn signal is pulled UP (right turn). |

Pull carpet on driver side look for rubbed wires under carpet. Had same thing happen on 92 I had when I first got it. the wire bundle had rubbed and was not enough resistance where it touched to floor till power power was applied to both wires to blow fuse. Also check where it goes under back seat to rear compartment.
