First may I say thanks for all your help, I have two engine codes. Code 23 which I found a great page on all the test pins and voltages to trace that code down, I also have code 42.

I have replaced the distributer with a known good one because it was handy and free but the code reappears but no change in engine performance so not the distributed or rather cam sensor. This means it is either wiring or ECM. Like I mention above I found a great thread on here that gave the entire test sequence for tracing code 23 for the IAT, id there a thread here for the same testing of components and harness for code 42. This way I can trace both this weekend and get rid of these two pesky problems.

Car starts and runs, shifts at the right speeds but has low power, no get up and go as well as only getting 200 mile per tank full so lower MPG rate. I suspect the biggest problem is code 23 in that the fuel is directly related to the air temperature but code 42 could be contributing to some of the power loss as well.

Any help here with testing the distributor cam sensor circuit and harness steps all the way back to the ecm. Or point me to the right thread link and I will go get it.

Again thanks up front for any and all help of course.

Dan

Use the 94 FSM link here http://geometroforum.com/topic/5044844/1/#new

open up the 6E2-A2 engine components wiring diagrams diagnostic charts upgrade emissions

Code 23 is on page 42

code 42 is on page 56

Just follow the procedures and you should find the problem.

"The Almighty Grounds Cleaner"

use a feeler guage, the pick up coil needs to be 0.2 to 0.4 mm from the star rotor teeth.
voltage while cranking is 0.10 to 0.40 A/C
this code is for a cam sensor/pick up coil. the code is triggered when the ecm doesnt see the pick up coil signal for more than 2 seconts when the engine is sopposed to be running.
pull the tail light fuse for 30 seconts to delete the code, see if it comes back again.

the code for the iat is usualy because its unplugged.
277 degrees F is what sets the code, engine warm....aka, sensor is unplugged or "open"

Thank you all very much, I have cleared code 23 and 42 from the car. It was a connection problem that had developed over the years I guess, just taking plugs loose and then plugging them back in and both codes are gone. I also found the idle at 1900 rpms so I reset that then properly set the TPS and timing and the car is running so much better. The pub section you turned me on to was a god send thanks again guys.
