My dad has been to a few Metro meets and has become fond of them himself and had mentioned wanting one of his own. Lucky for him we were told about a 93 that was for sale semi-locally for only $900! He initially wanted to pass on it because it was a non-a/c car from the factory, but I convinced him that it could be converted to A/C or, at worst, driven during the winter. Doesn't smoke a bit and seems to run great. Had a bit of a rough idle when it's started, but that's since been resolved. Has 191k according to the cluster and no rust! Got right about 51mpg on the way home, which seems suspiciously high, but the cluster appears to be accurate and we averaged 55-60mph. Also I "think" it had the interior out of a Vert installed. I've never seen headrests on a hatch or cloth side panels. I may be wrong though! It has hit something at some point up front because the crash bar is pushed in and they have made tabs to re mount the upper bumper cover. Also, the passenger fender and headlight assembly is damaged. Body is very straight aside from that. Here are the pics from when we picked it up and got it home: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I drove the car home about 70 miles to try and figure out a "to-do" list on what all it needed. Pictures hide quite a few of it's issues. Once we got it home, I wanted my Dad to take it for a drive for the first time: He was pretty embarassed, LOL: ![]() ![]() ![]() Got her inside with her older brother for obligatory pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Picked up a few things from the parts store on the way home. Grabbed a set of plugs, few cans of carb cleaner, PCV valve, oil/filter, and an air filter. Got to work on cleaning up the TB and the other stuff this morning. Safe the say the TB had never been cleaned, and i'm doubting the filter has been changed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Got a few more pics of it outside: ![]() ![]() ![]() Painted the valve cover with wrinkle paint and reinstalled everything. She runs great! I need to re-pressure wash the bay, but the engine and transmission are stained, so they won't clean up much more than they already are. Also grabbed a pretty cool shift knob from a late 80s VW Quantum at the local PAP. ![]() ![]() Here's a list of what all she needs. They are listed in order of priority. It "Should" be ready to go down to "Geos on the Gulf": Brakes - Shakes terribly when brakes are used at high speeds. Axles/CV joints - both sides are torn and click very badly. Also getting tie rods with this. Tires/wheels - Giving him my set of factory 13" steelies - he's buying new tires for them. Radio situation - has butchered radio wiring and mystery wires from the radio to the rear hatch area (thinking it had speaker boxes in rear). Frame brace - Need to either buy a TT brace or see if anyone has the bootlegged one available. Fan switch - Original switch broke and someone wired a toggle switch to replace it. Definitely returning to stock with a fixed original switch. New rear view mirror - current one is broken and just flops around. New front crash bumper, upper bumper cover, fender, and headlight surrounds. New or repair carpet - Carpet is pulled out of the side plates, but i'm thinking it "should" go back in. I'm excited! Got a lot of work to do before Geos on the Gulf in 2 weeks! Also, Bonus info: I bought a truck a few weeks back! I'm planning on pulling my 92 Metro down there and then just driving the Metro from the Hotel to the meet. The rings are shot on it and it smokes terribly. Bonus pic of the truck! It's a 96 F150 with the 300 I6 and a 5speed. Should pull it without issue! ![]() ![]()

Looks good both truck and metro! Those 300 sixes will run for well over 300k just keep adding oil. They really pull better than the v8's. |

That's odd, mine is an LSi and came with neither, while I know his is a base (no ac) yet it has them. They do have the rear pockets. |

Got a lot done on the car yesterday. Replaced the following: Both axles Both lower control arms/ball joints Front brakes (rotors and pads) Both tie rod ends Going to get the car aligned tomorrow as well as getting new tires put on my extra 13" wheels. New radiator should be in today, which means I should have it in soon as well! She's coming along! Edited by z34-5speed, Apr 13 2015, 11:26 AM.

Had issues with the passenger side axle leaking fluid (possibly the wrong axle). I'm working on fixing it right now. ![]() Something important broke at my job tonight so they let us go at 1:30am (usually get off at 5am). So I figured i'd take advantage of my extra free time to work on Dad's Metro! My first project was to remove the factory radiator. I have a new Aluminum one (same one I have in my GT car), however i'm missing a slim fan for it. I'm picking one up today. When I got the stock radiator out i was shocked by what I saw: ![]() ![]() I have never seen that amount of deterioration on a radiator that didn't leak. So glad I ordered a new one to be safe. My next task to tackle was the suspicious wiring that i'd found in the car. It seems at some time that someone had run 4 speakers to the rear hatch area using large gauge home speaker wiring. There were also a few wires that were spliced into switched power wires, and one wire running directly to the battery. I started looking for where it all went and realized that whatever it "powered" was no longer there, so I removed it all. This is what I was left with: ![]() I then moved on to getting it set up for a radio and some new speakers. The factory radio harness was butchered, so I cut it and used a new Alpine harness to replace it. I'm a big fan of Alpine, so it'll be getting one eventually. Just figured i'd get a head start on getting it ready. Prepped the Alpine harness before I even got into the car: ![]() Attached to the factory wiring, then cleaned up: ![]() ![]() I took the Alpine unit out of my other Metro to test everything out. I only have 1 speaker working (other one "works", but is obviously toast), and i'm doubting that there are actually any speakers in the rear panels because i'm getting nothing from either side. ![]() The original antenna was broken so I ordered a new one. Installing it was the most difficult part of my morning, lol: ![]() Hopefully i'll be updating this within a few hours with good news about the Axle! |

Got the axle and installed it. "So far", it's leak free. While I was out getting the axle, I picked up a slim fan from a local Tuner shop. Installed it to the radiator and reinstalled the whole unit. Should never need worry about overheating...ever, lol. ![]() Drove the Metro to get it aligned after I put it back together. It drives very well! Shock tower bearings are toast, but otherwise it is fine. We bought a brand new set of tires for my spare set of 13" wheels. Went with "Primewell" 155/80/13s. Rides pretty decent! I'm going to paint the wheels before I put hubcaps on them. ![]() Some of the audio goodies arrived. I'm doing a budget setup with this (aside from the headunit). Got 2 pairs of Pyle "Blue Label" 4" speakers and a cheap amp install kit. I'm going to try to convince the Dad to get a small bass tube to help fill in all the missing frequencies. He could care less about loud bass (he hates it to be honest), but i think he'd really appreciate a broader range than what the 4" speakers can provide. ![]() Edited by z34-5speed, Apr 15 2015, 11:29 AM.

Those 4" speakers are 'sound' and that's about all I can say for them. |

Those 4 inch pyles are basically useless at anything above 25 mph. Good to see you got the amp. Edited by Hydrojim, Apr 15 2015, 11:46 AM.
