Cool that you're putting together a ride for your dad, and that he has attended meets and wants one. I'm a big fan of the Smurf blue too. Have a good time with it all.

Been tinkering around with the car since Geos on the Gulf. Found a radio cage and trim surround as well.

Installed a new Alpine radio today. I haven't installed the rear speakers yet, so it's just the front Polk 4"s for now. Sounds decent, but definitely needs some more speakers and some type of subwoofer.

kyle, the simple audio systems i would run in hatchbacks using 5.25" 2 ways in the rear sounded pretty nice. the 5 and a quarter speakers give a pretty nice upper bass extension without all the drama of a sub, even a tube.

I've got those Nakamichi 6x9s in my rear panels on mine, but even they struggle to be felt over the road noise/vibrations.

Water pump locked up on it about a month back. Just so happened to be pulling into my neighborhood when it did it, so no harm done.

Finally got around to replacing it. Changed the timing belt and tensioner while i was at it.

Everything turned out well. I'll "probably" get back to daily driving it this week. I need to work on the window situation, as it's getting to hot to drive around with them stuck up and not having A/C.

proper placement of speakers and proper tuning with good power can bring out the best audio systems from the basic equipment. location, location, location.
the car looks good. love the color blue. thinking of painting mine that color.

Haven't updated this in a while. Still driving the car, waiting on it to cool down so my dad will start driving it some.

Have done a few things since the last update.

I was having an issue with the new radiator and slim-fan to where it would struggle to get up to operating temp, and refused to stay there due to the increased efficiency of the better rad/fan, so back in June I decided to try a "temporary" solution and tape the front of the car up "NASCAR" style. It lasted all summer, through all types of traffic and 100*+ temps and has been great! Mileage has also hovered between 48-50mpg since I taped the front (was around 46-48 before).

Since the car is able to "keep its cool" with all the tape on, I'd like to figure out a prettier way to cover the front to make it a bit more permanent looking.

I also installed an 8" tube subwoofer to fill in the lows. It is by far one of the best "bang for your buck" audio things i've done to a Metro. It fills out the lows quite nicely without being overly "boomy". Reminds me of the factory sub in my former 07 Lexus GS. It is a powered tube, so the amp is mounted on the sub itself. Here's a link:

I also replaced the Polk DB speakers with NVX 4" speakers. I bought a few sets of NVX 6.5s before I bought these and was extremely impressed with the build quality and the sound quality, ESPECIALLY for the price. I'd put them over the numerous Polk DB series speakers I have owned over the years, and would seriously put them just a notch below my Kove speakers. They fit without any cutting (which i had to do for the Koves in my other Metro), and sound fantastic. I also threw an Alpine KTP-445A "Power Pack" onto my headunit, which basically is a plug/play amplifier for Alpines. Bumped power up to 50wRMS per channel. This is my 4th "Power Pack" i've purchased, lol. I'm still only running front speakers, but don't actually feel like i'm missing much.

Since I re-acquired my 95 Sedan, I took my old GTi wheel out of it and put it in this car. Much more comfortable and better looking than the factory Metro wheel. While I was at it, I switched in an extra gauge cluster I had because it had a trip meter, while my original didn't. Lost 25k miles while I was at it! Miracle! Put LEDs in the new cluster while i was doing the swap.

I acquired a very nice set of seats from a 97 hatch at the local Pull A Part to swap in. Soaked them in degreaser and pressure washed them, then threw them in. They even match the color of the car! Much more comfortable as well!

And finally, since my other Metro is down and out of the moment, I took the upper strut bar off of it and put it on this one. Didn't notice any difference, and I wasn't expecting one either, but it sure looks better, lol.

I've got an XFi cam laying around and i'm leaking a lot of oil from the cam seal, so when i stop being lazy, i'm going to swap that in while fixing the leak. Also have a spare CS130 Alternator kit sitting around that i'll put on as well. Been trying to get ahold of MACs fabrication to look into getting a header and underbody brace for it as well.

I'll try to update this more often!

Your engine should not over-cool no matter how efficient is your radiator. Your thermostat is faulty, replace it.

My dad has been to a few Metro meets and has become fond of them himself and had mentioned wanting one of his own. Lucky for him we were told about a 93 that was for sale semi-locally for only $900! He initially wanted to pass on it because it was a non-a/c car from the factory, but I convinced him that it could be converted to A/C or, at worst, driven during the winter. Doesn't smoke a bit and seems to run great. Had a bit of a rough idle when it's started, but that's since been resolved. Has 191k according to the cluster and no rust! Got right about 51mpg on the way home, which seems suspiciously high, but the cluster appears to be accurate and we averaged 55-60mph. Also I "think" it had the interior out of a Vert installed. I've never seen headrests on a hatch or cloth side panels. I may be wrong though!

It has hit something at some point up front because the crash bar is pushed in and they have made tabs to re mount the upper bumper cover. Also, the passenger fender and headlight assembly is damaged. Body is very straight aside from that.

Here are the pics from when we picked it up and got it home:

I drove the car home about 70 miles to try and figure out a "to-do" list on what all it needed. Pictures hide quite a few of it's issues. Once we got it home, I wanted my Dad to take it for a drive for the first time: He was pretty embarassed, LOL:

Got her inside with her older brother for obligatory pics:

Picked up a few things from the parts store on the way home. Grabbed a set of plugs, few cans of carb cleaner, PCV valve, oil/filter, and an air filter. Got to work on cleaning up the TB and the other stuff this morning.

Safe the say the TB had never been cleaned, and i'm doubting the filter has been changed.

Got a few more pics of it outside:

Painted the valve cover with wrinkle paint and reinstalled everything. She runs great! I need to re-pressure wash the bay, but the engine and transmission are stained, so they won't clean up much more than they already are. Also grabbed a pretty cool shift knob from a late 80s VW Quantum at the local PAP.

Here's a list of what all she needs. They are listed in order of priority. It "Should" be ready to go down to "Geos on the Gulf":

Brakes - Shakes terribly when brakes are used at high speeds.
Axles/CV joints - both sides are torn and click very badly. Also getting tie rods with this.
Tires/wheels - Giving him my set of factory 13" steelies - he's buying new tires for them.
Radio situation - has butchered radio wiring and mystery wires from the radio to the rear hatch area (thinking it had speaker boxes in rear).
Frame brace - Need to either buy a TT brace or see if anyone has the bootlegged one available.
Fan switch - Original switch broke and someone wired a toggle switch to replace it. Definitely returning to stock with a fixed original switch.
New rear view mirror - current one is broken and just flops around.
New front crash bumper, upper bumper cover, fender, and headlight surrounds.
New or repair carpet - Carpet is pulled out of the side plates, but i'm thinking it "should" go back in.

I'm excited! Got a lot of work to do before Geos on the Gulf in 2 weeks!

Also, Bonus info:

I bought a truck a few weeks back! I'm planning on pulling my 92 Metro down there and then just driving the Metro from the Hotel to the meet. The rings are shot on it and it smokes terribly. Bonus pic of the truck!

It's a 96 F150 with the 300 I6 and a 5speed. Should pull it without issue!
