My Start/Stop Install

Finally finished my start/stop install. Spent so much time on it figured I might as well post in case it helps someone else. Wiring a fuel injector cut-off switch and a start button have been discussed here, TeamSwift, and EcoModder, so I won't go into details on the wiring. Both circuits run through relays mounted in the engine bay. I'll try to snap a pic of them tonight. The start circuit is grounded to the oil pressure switch near the oil filter. This prevents me from accidentally engaging the starter when the engine is running.

I wanted a clean and inconspicuous install. I started with a Ford shift knob I got off Ebay for about $20:

Painted the chrome center piece flat black. Trimmed a piece of plastic to fit where the auto shift button was and then installed and wired a button. If I were to do it again I would have bought a black button. This is the Stop button that "kills" the injector. I have to hold it for about 2 seconds to completely turn off the engine.

Originally I wired the Start function through the standard overdrive button on the knob. I found though that it wouldn't consistently engage the starter long enough to turn the engine over. After much testing, I decided the culprit was the button itself so I replaced it. The OD button just pops out.

This 16mm temporary push button fits in the hole perfectly

The new knob is held on with a hose clamp. I had to cut down the shift lever maybe 2 inches.

I connected everything together at the shifter using small and medium connectors I got on ebay cheap. Power for the Start button comes from the fuse box through an "add-a-fuse" so it's only powered when the ignition is on.

I use the set up to occasionally pulse and glide and to turn off the engine at long stop lights.
