XFi Harness Different?; What about intake, distrib, EGR?

I found an XFi at the junkyard the other day and picked up the engine and ECM. Then I see this today in an old thread "If you can get the XFI engine harness and the computer. Grab the intake manifold with the EGR and the distributor and you can start building your own XFI."

I left the harness (I even snipped it in a few places :( . Can someone tell me what the diff is with the harness and if it's worth going back for? And and what can the intake manifold and EGR and distibutor possibly have to do with an XFi?

Discuss.

Good bye

Xfi cars from 89-91 have different intake manifolds than the non xfi cars made those years except California cars. The non xfi cars of that range don't have egr, the xfi and the California smog cars have egr. I would imagine the 92-94 xfi cars take the same manifold as the non xfi cars of the same years. I see that you have a 93 so if you grabbed a 92-94 Xfi ecm you are probably ok. If you got an 89-91 ecm it won't plug into your engine harness.

You "snipped" the harness.....were you in a hurry?

So much for the next guy who actually NEEDS the harness. :lol

Well, I left 99% of it intact but there was one wire that just wouldn't budge, not a multi connector, just a wire that you could put a quick connector on easy. So I actually wasn't being a dick. But I was kinda pissed at the thing and got impatient. We were racing the clock to get that thing outta there before they kicked us out at the end of the day.

I'm just bustin' your chops. :cheers

There is an 87 Sprint at a local junkyard that I picked a bit last week. It had really nice seats and interior, including carpet, and I was going to go back this week and pick all of that for a rebuild I was doing. But some yahoo got into it, busted the side window, tore up the seats for no apparent reason, and now the carpet is all mildewy and worthless.

I always try to be real careful about leaving doors open and windows down, stuff like that. But I've also seen people who don't give a :shit as long as they get the part they need. I've seen people tear out door panels just to get a door handle. Irritates me a bit.

Perhaps someone who needs that harness can simply tie into it with an adapter from their old harness.

No I totally agree. And really I shoulda takn the time to work it off the connection. We had it all disconnected we thought and that one hung us up. My son was hugging the motor and holding it up while. I was trying to get that dang thing off and well, nuff said. Anyway, any diff on an XF i harness . I can't see that there is.

90% of an XFI is the cam and final drive ratio. I don't think it's worth the effort to try to swap over the ECM.

Does the ECM require a different Harness? I thought the harness would be the same regardless.

If you have a 92-94 the harnesses should be the same.

pretty sure it's the same harness, the tune is slightly different though. But like woodie said, a lot of the gain is in the cam and transmission.

absolutely fresh fish

i have a 93 cal emission base car and found a cal emission xfi ecm, fit perfectly. i have not done the transmission swap, but in my experience, the ecm *was* a valuable part in increasing my mpg.

I installed an 89 xfi engine into a 94 metro. I used the 94 harness and the intake, oxygen sensor. I left the 89 distributor in the engine and the car ran great.

Here's a question, my XFi is a CA car, but I live in AZ. What's the diff? Could I be getting better mpg with non Cal parts? I noticed the timing says 5*BTDC on the hood and. I know that is not likely standard elsewhere.

Was the 89 labeled "XFi" or were they all the same in 89?
