So my 99 has HID lights, while super bright and amazing driving through the mountains, everyone assumes I've got my highbeams on (which don't actually function properly either, one bulb lights up but honest it seems like it might be the low beam. Further diagnosis is required there, but ultimately I'd rather go back to the stock bulbs. The only local wrecker car I can find is a 95 and while my turn signals are on the inner portion of the composite housing, that one has them on the bumper portion. The previous owner absolutely butchered the wiring to get these HIDs working (and since they're wired to the DRL's even during the day they're obnoxious EDIT: actually, they can't be wired to the DRL's, since my ebrake won't turn them off at all.. hmm) and the lenses on the 95 are suuuuper cloudy whereas mine are good. I guess this is a really round about way of asking, but does the wiring in the 95 match up in colour to the 99 at all so it's easy to fix, and can I use the same bulbs and light harness from the 95 to bring my 99 back to stock? I guess if the wire colours are different I can just dig around for a lighting diagram (I'm sure I've seen one here somewhere...) and try to get it all sorted, but ideally I'd like to just swap the 95 wires right back in place... After that is going to be finding away to get them HID's in some sorta fog light setup that doesn't take away from the mileage too much, I just burned a little less than 35L between Hixon BC and Hinton AB with a jaunt from Hixon to Ispah Lake and then back to highway 97 in between (and a couple days being stuck sideways in a small creek, so there was about an hours worth of idling in there too, with a little revving while trying to rock it back out of there) and that was amazing. I hope to see 600+ out of my next long distance tank. I coulda pushed to Edson no problem and still had a couple kilometres of fuel left and I was reading 591 on the trip odometer when I filled in Hinton ![]() I think 90km/h is my new favourite speed, SUCH MILEAGE! Well I've got some news for you. Remove the HIDs. You can get 160 watt rally lights from abroad and wire them in with ceramic plug+harness (melting proof) and those can be aimed. HID conversions don't work because the headlight lens needs to be designed to use and aim HID lights. Your turn signals can be used on the bumper. I done it on my car. You just need to extend the wire lengths and use the existing harness portion from the 95 turn signals. |

Yeah, this inability to aim these HIDs is what has me wanting to remove them in the first place, that and the fact the ballasts and hacked in wires are so poorly placed and half arsed it's practically asking for electrical issues later on, ugh. Guess it's off to the wrecker in the next couple days to pull the harness n bulbs and see what I can make of em. To clarify, I'm pulling from a guppy mouth with bumper signals, mine are in the composite lense like the one in your sig. Definitely gonna be eyeballing Cap'n Crunch and Ralphs Empire from your sig too when I get back home, since all the Pick n Pulls are closed down on the lower mainland. Since I'm in Edmonton for the time being it's Pick n Pull there, and Kar Bashers out near Sherwood Park |

You should check out my HIDs. I modified projector lenses to fit into the stock buckets and molded lexan as a cover lense. Perfectly bright, aimable using the stock adjuster screws. Only 35 watt draw = better for our small alternators and less chance of frying our small headlamp switch with 160 Watt+ draw. Also the projectors I got have flaps in them for high beams. HOLD ON digging up some pictures... |

Ah here is the old thread http://geometroforum.com/topic/5150884/1/ Since then I have made numerous upgrades to the lighting system, including working automation. See this thread for info on that... http://geometroforum.com/topic/5684626/1/#new |
