Just rembering my first metro. It was white 93 with a auto trans. I got it when I was bout 24 or 25. I was heading home one day from Bloomington was taking old back roads blasting my stereo enjoying the windows down and the sun roof popped up just crushing and got wild hair and begain to press the foot feed to the floor pretty soon I had the old egg doing 80 mph. In the distance just so happens to be a cop running radar.I was busted with my first speeding ticket in a geo metro cost me like 120 bucks. 80 in a 55. I was so nervous first ticket first time get in pulled over he warned me about pushing the geo so hard. My dad also happened to pass by when the cop was handing my ticket. Lol he was waiting at my house an I got home he asked what happens and he said the same thing how dangerous it was pushing my geo like that and he laughs and said I'm probably part of a small group that has ever cotton a speeding ticket in a metro. Has any one else gotten a spending ticket in there geo? |

No, but I remember an old billboard VW used to advertise the increased power of a model upgrade back in the '60s. There's the Beetle sitting there with a cop bike in front of it and the officer has his foot up on the bumper as he writes the ticket. The caption said "They said it couldn't be done!"

Got out of one one time. Same as you, 80 in a 55. Got told to slow down. He did ask how long it took me to get to 80. I didn't think that was the right time to brag. ![]() It helps that I was pulled over, window down, license and registration out the window, before he even got turned around. No denying it, I knew I was busted. Yes sir, No sir. I was nice, so was he. Even thanked me before I drove off. I am under no false pretenses that was the first time, and probably the last, it will go down like that. I did have an "incident" on the road once where a guy was screwing with me. I called the cops. When they caught him, he said I started it. I told the cop, "Do I look like I have enough horsepower to be starting shit?" The cop starting laughing; the other guy got busted.

I got out of a ticket 80 in 55, but not in a metro- it was county sherriff. I pulled over just after county sign. He'd been following me for 20 miles with his lights on and flashing. He knew Ididn't see him, because I never slowed down, and had my eyes peeled to the very curvy mountain road. He was nice as could be considering he'd been following me for so long. I jumped when I finall hit a straight-away and glancd in rear view mirror. My blinker went on, and I started braking to pull over. I was looking for a nice spot off the shoulder with room for both of us. all the while,I was thinking- where the heck did he come from? I grabbed my license, registration, and insurance before he got to my window. He asked me "Do you have any idea how fast you were going? I said yes sir, had the cruise control set at 86. Blew him away that I was honest about the speed. He asked me where I was going, and I said home- I was tired of having kids in car(trip to see sister), and just wanted to get home. Meantime the disney songs CD was playing to keep kids entertained. He told me to slow down, and be safe. |

Our friend T3ragtop got a ticket leaving Geo Metro Palooza last year. It can be done. Running a Metro engine with an auto trans that hard is a drag. With a standard trans, no worries. |

murf, i was stone cold busted! i drove past the last of the guys still at the park and took a hot corner. after i got the car straightened out i looked up and saw the biggest cop in the world walk to the center line and point me over to the shoulder. i was friendly and cooperative. i even admitted that i was showing off for the guys at the park. he asked me if i was going home and when i told him i was he told me to drive safely and let me go - with no ticket! ![]() he said that he didn't know if i was just lucky but i haven't gotten a moving violation ticket in 40 years. that one was before any records were kept on computers so i don't think that last speeding ticket even comes up when they check. ![]() no ticket for me! |

On one of my trips through the mountains I gained up to 86mph to build speed for the climb up the next mountain. On the way up he pulled me over and he asked me why I was going to fast. I just pointed to the mountain climb then said my 3 cylinders don't like that and he let me go. He was very nice. |

I hope one day I get a speeding ticket on my bicycle. I'll frame it and hang it on the wall. The limit's only 25 on the road in front of work, so it's possible... but unlikely. |

I have gotten 3 speeding tickets in Metros in the last 15 years. All on the freeway doing 75-85 in 65 mph zones. I am always polite but it never helps. I have never gotten a warning. The CHP has always been very professional with me. When I was 25 I was doing 90mph down a mountain road at 3AM on Christmas morning. Got stopped by CHP. He said he would write me up doing 80 so he would not have to arrest me for reckless driving. That was nice of him. So I stuck to the speed limit til I got down to the desert, then I sped up to 90 again, with everyone else. I think it was a coworker who told me his wife was so good looking that she always got warnings. He told a story of a cop chasing his wife for several miles before she finally pulled over. Then she refused to lower her window. But eventually he let her off because she was so charming. |

CHP gave me a "unspeeding" ticket on my bicycle once for doing 3 in a 65 zone on the interstate. I was trying to get out of the Bay area near Fremont, with a backpack and panniers, going uphill into a headwind. I was polite but it didn't help. I framed it! Edited by perfesser, May 4 2015, 01:26 PM.
