I went to pull a part yesterday and had the pleasure of Boogie Rat going with me. We walked the yard looking for cruise controls. There were plenty of cars with cruise on them but they were factory types. Boogie rat spotted one in the import section that was a aftermarket type. It is a vacuum style cruise and I think I can get it to work. Found a couple of websites that had the same type of unit put on metros. One thing it stated is I may have to put a vacuum canister on it to to get enough vacuum for it to work properly all the time. Here's what we found. Heck for $13 i think it worth a try. |

Good buy for $13. ![]() Rudolph is using a vacuum style CCS-100. Yes, our engines are too small and you WILL need a vacuum canister. The best one I found to use is the old GM "beach ball" canisters. There ALL over your local PNP. The easiest place to get them is on the big G20 or so vans. The canister was bolted to the hood. While it looks small under the hood of a conversion van, it looks MASSIVE under the hood of a Metro. So I didn't put it there. ![]() Depending on the Metro your putting it in, the '95+ Metro's have a sweet spot under the left front headlight were it fits just fine. You will have to pull the bumper to install it, but afterwards your can't see it at all. I have pictures when I did it to Rudolph; one day I'll post them....... ![]() Don't forget to add a small vacuum check valve. You need the cruise to have access to a reservoir of vacuum, your engine doesn't need to see it.

Some of the vacuum canisters I seen online they made out of pvc pipe. I'll look the next time I go to pull a part for the ball type canister. I remember seeing them before. I'll have to get some check valves also. The check valve goes between the vacuum source and the canister? Trying to find the wiring diagram for the one I bought. I tracked down who made it but haven't been able to find a installation instructions for it yet. Going to take some time to get it installed, we have lost some people at work and I have work more overtime. More money to buy extra parts for the car but no time to put them on. |

Is the type of canister you are talking about?![]() Should i take a hand type vacuum pump to test it to make sure it will hold vacuum? Edited by freegeo, May 6 2015, 11:19 AM.

That's your guy. The one you have a picture of has two holes; most of them only have one. If you find one with two holes, it may have a check valve built into it. Just follow the vacuum lines and you might find a check valve; they're all over the place. No need to bring a vacuum pump. You can just suck out a good bit of air, put your finger over it, and if after about 2-3 seconds, as long as you get a "pop" when you remove your finger, you should be good to go. Very little to break. Besides, they're usually very cheap at the junkyard. This one mounts very well under the left headlight. You will have to remove the bumper to get it in there but IIRC the front bumper is only held on with like four bolts. I did find the pics of how I mounted mine, I just need to get them posted. After you put the bumper back, you can't see it at all. If you're not concerned with how it looks, you can also bolt it to were the ABS servo sits under the brake booster. But like I said it looks MASSIVE under the hood. I have pics of some of this stuff over in my project thread The Story of Rudolph. That little reservoir just didn't cut it.

![]() Got me one. I now just have to find a wiring or installation manual for it. Have contacted Rosta but no reply yet. Not going to mount any thing until I find that. Seem like it is a older model that doesn't have tech support for anymore. |

Found a wiring diagram for it. Now the work begins getting the a location for the unit and getting the cable hooked up. |

Guys, I have installed one of the rasta cruise controls onto my 97 Geo Metro 4cyl, 5spd. I went with the wireless button control on the steering wheel. The cruise control works wonderfully well. As far as what year Geo you can put it on, I would have to say all of them. The only thing I did different was they wanted the cruise control cable connected to the gas peddle. I tryed it with the main servo control in the cab of the Geo. It was to noisy for me so I moved the main servo control out onto the firewall and connected the cable to the throttle body bell crank. The instructions are straight forward on the rest of the installation. The initial dip switch setting where changed because when engaging the cruise control at highway speeds it would hunt up and down but eventually it settled in. They have great tech support and they hit a home run with the changes they had me make. It now works perfectly. I would not hesitate to install another one.
