No. The 12 inch wheels came on cars with 10mm lug studs. They won't fit on the 12mm lug studs on a 99. In addition, I believe the wheel is too small to go over the brake assemblies. Sorry! Not really worth it, IMHO, but it's your car, not mine. ![]() ...what kind of engine parts are you talking about? |

I have a 96 and just completed a series of hypermiling tests. For the past few months I've driven my metro like anybody would. Hit the gas when you need to and don't worry about the gas mileage. I averaged between 42 and 44mpg. Now keep in mind this was through the winter months using E0 gas which was rated at 91 octane. On a usual tank of gas I would go about 325 miles on 7.2 gallons (give or take a few tenths) My fuel gauge would read 250 at half a tank and 325 miles at the 3/4 empty mark. Jump to the middle week of April and I checked the oil, threw in some STP gas treatment, aired the tires up to 50 psi, and decided to hypermile for the tank of gas I just put in. I have a vacuum gauge and my daily route is 2 miles of 35mph, 2 miles of 55 mph, 2 miles of 45 mph and about 5 miles of 40mph. I didn't want to rush to stop signals nor did I tear away from a dead stop. I tried very hard to keep the vacuum gauge at 10 inches or higher. As I pulled away from a stop I would keep the vacuum at 5 inches and just shift through the gears so the vacuum wouldn't drop below that. Slow and easy, never trying to break the speed limit, coasting with the engine ON, and I never pulsed and glided. On the tank of gas I noticed I went 300 miles on a half tank of gas. Not bad. At 400 miles the fuel gauge was setting on 3/4 empty. I pulled into the gas station and filled up and I used 7.8 gallons. After doing some calculations I found that I was getting about 51.5 mpg. Not as good as I was hoping, but not bad either. Realistically I was hoping to get 57ish. There have been members on here who have gotten close to 60 mpg driving about the same style and speed as I did. I felt the gas station had changed to a summer blend which I figured would help with my mpg. I didn't think it helped too much. Still I was disappointed with the results based on the fact that I babied the throttle for the entire tank of gas. Maybe I'll have to look at something else causing my failure to break 55mpg like a sticky break or a bad bearing. That is yet to be determined. My belief is that 55mpg is doable in a Gen3 metro IF all of the stars are aligned up. It is easier in a Gen 1 or 2, but I like a bit more steel surrounding me plus the air bag is a nice security blanket. But if you ever get hit in the rear by a semi, you can certainly kiss your rear goodby. Just ramblings for you to think over. Hope it helps. |

Good feedback. I like the MKII, 89 to 94 for my 2Cs. More compact and you can add the other stuff to stiffen the body. I like the 89 to ? flat interior dash hugely better that the 93 and on rounded dash. If I could get the 89 to 91(?) look with the safety features AND ODB2 of the 96 plus that would be best. But... you must go for the 99, double check the 99 transmission. My 96 is a 3/5 but is geared low which is good for zip and hills and good MPG in town but bad for hiway RPM. Fan is usually the switch itself, they come apart. If the innards are still there you can squeeze it back together and secure it with a zip tie. |

Well, you are 1/2 correct. the 12" rims will not fit over the 95+ (FRONT) caliper set up. they WILL fit just fine on the rear. there is no clearance issues with the drums, and/or the larger lugs. I have been running them for 10 years or more. I also changed the fronts to the early style calipers. this is because Barney was the only 95+ I had, and I had piles of 12" rims/tires. also I tend to stock pile parts, it was far easier to keep inventory for one style. Melanie, I am kinda surprised, you were the first one to notice the 12's on a 95, at the Minn. meet. Snowy, doesn't count as he had previous knowledge since he got the 95 set up. |

To be honest, I was guessing, because of the square-ish holes in the wheel. No 13s that came from Geo had holes that shape. (To my knowledge.) Kind of funny because my Dad's Metro has 13s with square holes; his wheels musta came off something else. |

So what makes the Gen 3 Metro lose MPGs from previous Gens? |
