Fuckin phone. So this may be due to some water damage. I had to deliver in the rain and didn't think of phone. Problem: Let's say I'm texting, on google, or really in any app. Often times, what will happen is a new screen will pop up over that and black out the previous screen (can still see the screen behind). On this new screen, there will show the open apps: messaging, browsing, gallery, etc. on the bottom of the screen it says "clear all" (google symbol) and "task manager". To exit the new screen I have to push back several times mixed with the home button. The home button doesn't really do anything now. I'm wondering if something may have messed up with that button causing it. Hard to do anything with the screen popping up, about ready to smash the phone. Any ideas? Yes I have turned off the phone, removed battery and let it sit a while. |

Put it in a bag of rice for as long as you can stand to be without it. If that doesn't get it working correctly then residual water isn't likely the issue. Try Ifixit for troubleshooting and repair instructions. |

Water intrusion is a good possibility. |

my daughter had a similar issue with her phone. sometimes the screen wouldnt react to touch. upon further investigation, i found a small hairline fracture, almost invisible. i got on e-bay and ordered a new screen (digitizer) took the phone apart and replaced the screen. works perfect now. scour you phone, maybe has a crack? |

What model is the phone? Certain ones are prone to failure more than others. Look up reviews and see if others have the same problem or not. Conor |

If you can remove the battery, a soak and overnight or longer dry in the oven on lowest setting can sometimes help. I did this once to a laptop motherboard that had something spilled on it and had been exposed to more cigarettes than a chain smoker and it brought it back to life. Be aware that I usually do this as a last resort. It may do more help than good. Conor |

LG Optimus F3...... I have it in some rice. I don't know if that really works or just some bullshit that everyone says to do. I didn't see any cracks. The phone reacts to my touch on everything except when that issue pops up. Oh well. I use to really like LG (10 years ago). I had a few phones that I would abuse the hell out of and would work great, but those phones were tanks compared to the ones of now. Usually purchase the low end smart phones and this only costed me $40, so if I have to get a new one, so be it. |

The $50 range phones are very hit or miss. I would probably pick this one over a lot of the other no names out there. I read that the typical thing is that they work great for a while and then just flake out or quit all together. I almost got the Nokia Lumia 635 last time around but decided not to because of the Windows. If you just want a basic phone, all the reviews say it is very solid, reliable, and has good reception. They have a pre-paid AT&T one from Wal-Mart right now for about $50. I was buying mine with the intention of using Google Talk and a credit card reader. Windows won't do either, at least not without a lot of work. I was stuck between an Apple or Android. I ended up with some HTC which is OK but not my favorite. I am sure I will upgrade in a bit. your home button is the problem. what you are seeing is the the app switcher memory management function. this is typically accessed by double tapping or pressing and holding the "home button" this is confirmed by you having issues with the home button. 2 causes typically related to physical damage. water intrusion (good info already given not too much more you can do) second physical damage to the home button. either something is stuck in it (physical solid/liquid matter) or the substrate is damaged OR if a "soft" key the screen may be cracked at that spot. if the latter could be tough to fix if the prior rice is the trick. also can of compressed air if a physical button to try and "blow" the water out of the button itself then stick in the rice.
