So, as I was fixing my fan switch in my new 99, I was disconnecting the antenna wire from the back of the radio and it basically fell apart. I figured I might as well use the antenna wire from the 92 Metro but I can't figure out how to disconnect it from the antenna. Anyone done this before? Thanks. |

They are one piece, the cable does not unplug. You can replace the end on yours, try Radio Shack. |

I think 99's had the new, smaller connector anyway. |

I just replaced by antenna brand new from Crutchfield. They have exact fit new replacements for 89 to ___ . Reach under your dash pop the wire out of the clip harness, and pull the connector out of the back of the stereo. Take the two screws out outside and pull everything the antenna away. Just be mindful as you pull up that the wire is not snagging as it goes into the frame rail to the left of the fusible link. On the new one just drop the wire into the frame rail from above and feed it in so you have enough to reach the opening next to the fusible link. Don't feed in too much, it just makes it harder to pull the wire out. Reach inside with you fingers and pull the wire out. The rest is reverse of removal. The reception is great! i find that if you tie a string to the old antenna cable before you pull it out of the a-pillar you can use the string to pull the new antenna's cable back in.

x2 ^ Also you can always just solder on a new antenna end. It's a simple coax cable with a braided ground then a white insulator and a single solid stand of positive which is for your FM.........(AM is ground, FM is positive) We do that at work about once a month for when we run out of adapters and the client "NEEDS" to get something installed or fixed asap for their trip that is tomorrow for an issue they've had for over a year...but all of a sudden it's an "emergency" |

I thought about doing that, but really had no reason to even do that. It dropped right down the column and took me a couple seconds to grab. |
