This looks like a good deal. I was thinking about trying to restore it if I can talk him down $20. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/5031062570.html |

I think he is a bit optimistic in his value. I would offer him a little less. I notice he is also wanting to sell the other parts, but not as a package. |

He would sell everything as a package. He actually just posted another link for an auto-to-manual conversion. 92 Metro engine/tranny for conversion This is a friend of mine, and the Craigslist ad was my doing. When I say the car is "unrestorable" I mean it!! Edited by GeoStalker, May 20 2015, 10:39 AM.

I got my first Metro as a set. The one was too far gone and had too many questionable "customizations" to make it worth fixing. They had cut the back hatch out like Eco Mudder but did a really crappy job. Water pooled in the floor and the entire thing was rusted. I was amazed the rear suspension was still on the car. I found that the spare tire under the driver seat keeping it falling through the rusted floor. There were some odd brackets holding the thing together made from bent and welded horseshoes. This and the spray paint camo job made it a real gem.... for the crusher! I pulled all the worthwhile parts and sent the rest on its way. It was fodder for the "Hall of shame". Then I got the one that someone had shot up with guns. It still had lots of good parts and is too bad they did this as it could have been a good little car but they ruined it. The windows and dash were blown out and the inside was filled with mold and mouse crap. It is amazing what people do to their cars. Conor |

It reminds me of the parts car I bought to get my vert going. It ran good but compression was a lil low. I did a top end rebuild and swapped the blown motor from my vert, and did a 5 speed conversion. Think I paid 250 for it. Got all the parts I needed, sold some, gave away some, and got (I think $50) for the shell at a scrapyard.

Even $100 is optimistic in scrap? It definitely isn't the worst thing I've seen. He at least knows what he has isn't going to run on the street. We all remember the car that got pushed 10 feet side ways off a road in a T-bone accident, right? "Needs a little TLC but is perfectly drivable." |

The last time I scrapped a Metro, I had a bunch of other junk in with it (mostly steel) and got $53. I had removed many of the good parts or rebuildable parts such as the engine and transmission so there wasn't much left but the shell and even that was mostly rust. Conor |

I hope you're aware I was kidding. ;D Mine's in enough trouble as it is. Now that I am deep into the suspension, I can see stuff the mechanics missed: torn boots, worse rust that expected... HA! It's already in the driveway, I might as well keep going. I did kind of like the idea of getting hold of one of those engines, though. If I *had* a flatbed, I'd think about it. Well, one with a winch. Heck, maybe even a reciprocating saw. We could get it two loads in the Astro. Maybe the price will drop. I don't to waste a (n) AAA tow on it. We drive old cars, they will break, or, more likely, I will continue to lock keys in the car or get nails in the tires (we've finally been able to prove that someone peppers our driveway with wood screws and roofing nails about once a year. I'm about to purchase a rolling magnet). Again, my usual position: we need that money for a legit Metro (which really doesn't jibe with the money I may be blowing on the Grenade. Mrs. supercrust is on board with my methodology, though.) Unknown motors are about 250 at the local yard. Hrm 500 with a transmission. That would put the total cost of the Grenade so far much closer to 1k. Is it worth it for two more years of service? *shrug*. Edited by supercrust, May 21 2015, 11:29 AM.
