I was at NAPA last week and the older gentleman next to me was trying to buy some Metro rod bearings. He was looking for some undersize bearings for a 1.0 engine. I asked him why he was looking for just the rod bearings and he said that they were a little loose. Then I asked him who was doing the crank and he said it's still in the car and that he polished the rod journals with some emery cloth. I told him that it doesn't work that way and that the crank needs to come out and be turned. He gave me a look ( like mind your own business ) and said he was just going to be driving it around town and not on the highway. I tried to tell him that it wouldn't work but he went and paid for them and had them order it anyway. He'll figure it out when he can't get the engine to turn to put the next rod cap on.

He will just leave the rod cap nuts a little loose so it will turn over----after all----"just going to be driving it around town"----He will just drive slow.

Good bye

I stopped at AutoZone today and I don't think any of the 4 counter people had a clue about anything! I asked for metric nut and handed him the bolt. He looked at me and asked what it was for. I told him it was for an Olds Alero and I got this blank stare, he then went to the bolt isle. I finally followed him only to find him trying to clean the threads and was trying to screw a 1/2-13 nut on my 12x1.75 metric bolt. I had to find the nut I wanted and he could barely make change for the $5 bill I handed him.
Sorry just blowing off steam.

Never ever I repeat never ever go to Autozone to ask them for professional help. That's like buying a bike from Wal - Mart and asking one from the toy department employees how to toe your brakes in right :omg

Over Educated parts guy

There are very few parts people that know any thing about cars any more! The few that I know are in commercial sales at Advance auto or Napa and Car Quest which is now owned by Advance Auto.

I find the NAPA guys in my area know the most about cars. Older guys and a couple of gals, They know cars, parts and mechanics. Also in my area, Motion Auto comes next followed by Car quest. A few guys at Orilles know parts and cars but Azone and Orilles most of the time only know how to look it up on a computer. Azone is the worst.
