Bearing spacer; How much play?

When I removed the front bearings, I noticed the spacer seemed to have a fairly tight tolerance. As I was installing the new bearings I noticed the spacer had much more movement than when coming out. The bearings seem to be seated all the way down. Is it normal for the spacer to move freely without much resistance?

How did you get the bearings out? I took my hub to the local machine shop and they told me there was no way for them to remove them. With both bearings touching the spacer there is nothing for me to tap against. The sharpest tip screwdriver I have can't grab any traction for me to tap it out.

Any help is appreciated.

I typed it twice because on my browser the post above mine has a signature that overlapped my comment and made it unreadable, lol.

There is something wrong with aftermarket drum fit. I ended up modifying a valve spring shim to make up the difference. Been good so far. (~18months)
