After I acquired the Firefly recently and began reading everything I could about these cars I have noticed a significant amount of internet content meant to disparage the Metro, so that you won't want one. I read a review where they out and out lied - claiming the car was unreliable, difficult to maintain because the parts were so expensive. Of course this car makes "worst" lists compiled by members of Generation SUV, based on their personal opinions and criteria, which is understandable - to a point. But when I read stuff like http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/daily-news/080521-Why-You-Shouldn-t-Buy-a-Geo-Metro-to-Save-on-Gas/ my blood boils. They lie - saying that the post 2007 EPA mileage rating is the old one. |

When you see car like our getting second and third lives other people get jealous. Remember the cash for clunkers the government tried to get the old cars off the road. Well I don't think the government is against us. But of all the cars that are left in the aftermath I see more metros than other 90's cars. I remember when these cars started to come out when I was in highschool. I wanted a turbo sprint. All my friends made fun of that. Most of the people I talk to lately think that these cars are throw away cars. It is truly is against the world. |

I've been driving Metros since 89. Yet, I would not recommend the Metro to everyone. My current Metro has 420K and in the last 3-4 years I've had to do a significant amount of work. If I had to pay someone to do the work, and rent a car while the work was being done, I would have got rid of it. Also the 2 people I've driven in the Metro hate it. If someone is not used to driving in a small car, they freak out. The Metro is not for everyone. |

Well there is 15 lb. of that sound deadening in the floor board from the factory, (I know I took it out and weighed it even got picture for proof) might help to take that out to make them more reliable. Dragging around unneeded weight doesn't help these cars, then you take in what everyone else has done on here and you got a diamond in the rough.

You gotta ease "normal" and "ordinary" drivers into the Metro thing. You start them off in a late model car. It's relatively comfortable, relatively safe, and they can get used to the scale of it. When they're ready you move them into an early model. Before long, they will be out there, you know, in the middle of the night, in their drawers( or whatever) hack sawing off their throttle body bridge, or using a butter knife to pry the antenna of the top of the car. It's a slippery, but happy slope. |

I seem to get a bit of aggression from dudes in trucks. They come so close from behind I feel like they can't see me over their hoods. One guy pulled out slowly from behind and crept into the turning lane next to me, inching slowly up until his diesel exhaust on his big pickup truck was pointed right in my window. The light turned green and he gave the throttle a good sharp blast, filling my car with exhaust. Jerk. |

Bullies. In your case Canadian bullies but still the same mentality. They were the same in high school. Someone posted Guys With Crappy Cars Must Have Huge Dongs a week or so ago(?). Watch it a few times and you will feel better. |

A Metro makes sense if you are able and willing to do most maintenance and repairs yourself. Same as any older vehicle. That Metros are simpler tends to help, but I wouldn't recommend an older vehicle as a daily driver to most people. Compared to a Model A Ford a Metro is sophisticated ! I think a Metro is generally as reliable as a Honda of the same age. My '64 Valiant was also easy to maintain and repair and had the virtue of still running when it needed work. But a Metro will usually run for more miles in a good state of tune than a slant six - more than 350,000 miles. The slant six won't outright break, but it will need major work before most well maintained G10s will. |

Did I hear someone call the Metro small? My '00 is no smaller than a '15 VW Jetta. Our friend just got one and it is stupid cramped. Same can be said of the new Audi A4 another friend of ours purchased. They are both hella cramped just like the Metro. They have bigger trunks...

I had a beefy diesel try that with my leaf. I accelerated so quickly that his "plume" did not even cross the distance from him to me before I was "gone" I bet he was "annoyed" to say the least :-) |
