If you still have a Radio Shack...
Is it that bad? I've heard some have closed, but the East Liverpool (Calcutta) location is still open. As a matter of fact, they hung a giant red sign in the window that states "We're still open"... I almost died laughing! :lol :rofl

i had a head unit one time that i couldnt get the clock to display all the time, i read the instructions and they didnt offer it as an option.
but after times of playing with it i did figure out how to do it, odds are if you ask around or fiddle with it, you can have the clock displayed all the time.
im not saying you can but i think it can be done, its in the settings, but may not be listed in the manual?
just trying to help

As I'm weight limited, I've tried 2 options

1. Cheap China half depth head unit
http://www.amazon.co.uk/VicTsing%C2%AE-LED-LCD-Display-Receiver/dp/B00K4VRZG2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1436574599&sr=1-1&keywords=VicTsing+car+stereo which is adequate but only just.

2. Amplifier and telephone
My phone does everything a head unit can do and more.

The phone option allows you get a decent amp instead of a head unit. The phone goes in your pocket so there's no shiny head unit to tempt thieves. If you use GPS the voice comes over the speakers. You're handsfree if the phone isn't too far away.

potter, i'm a little slutty and sometimes i like me some rapage.

the last sony higher end head unit i bought from them for my mercedes actually ended up being cheaper than the least expensive source on ebay.

the radio was about $15 higher but when there were installation issues in making the sony unit get along with the bose amplifier, they comp'ed the filters that fixed the issue. the filters were $30 each and they sent me 2 of them.

the filters, installation tools, and wiring adapters that came with the head unit from crutchfield more than made up for the $15 price difference i paid.

so sometimes at least, using crutchfield is worth it. :deal

Not bad man.. They must have caught up with the competition. At one point I was undercutting them substantially even with me making a 20% markup.

Alas this was 8-9 years ago. The industry, Market has changed alot since.

I've been a little slow getting my webpage together (and posting it here) on my radio install but after being warned by T3 about buying from Walmart I ended up paying $64 for a nice JVC head unit from there. No Crutchfield for me...
