So I stripped my rear passenger spindle of my 95 Geo Metro hatchback. Having a very hard time finding a replacement. Does anybody know: 1. Can just the spindle be replaced, or does it have to be the spindle / knuckle assembly. 2. Will a non ABS spindle fit a ABS spindle and vice versa. 3. Will a sedan spindle fit a hatchback. 4. Will only a 1995 to 2001 spindle / knuckle fit into a 1995? 5. Are they specific to front and back and right to left? Any information would be greatly appreciated. |

There are two very different rear spindle/hub assemblies for the GEN3 (95-01) Metro/Swift. One has the standard bearing in drum setup, you remove the center nut, washer, and bearing, and the drum slides off the spindle, the inside bearing will come off with the drum. The other kind has a hub which carries the bearings, and the drum just slides on the lug nuts, much like a front rotor. I've never been 100% about whether the difference is ABS, or the difference is hatchback/sedan, I suspect it's hatchback/sedan. The spindle is one piece with the knuckle, so it must be from that exact corner of the car. |

Woodie, thank you so much for taking the time with this information. You have saved me a lot of time and headache. When you say Metro / Swift, does that include Firefly and Sprint also? |

Don't think there were Sprint or Firefly nameplates on GEN3 cars (95 - 01)

sorry to chime in so late, but.......... YES, the spindles are quite easy to remove from the 'knuckle', they are simply pressed in. you can just beat them out of the back of the knuckle. if you have a way to heat the knuckle, even a hand torch, it helps. if you mushroom the end, simply grind it enough to get the nut on. to your questions; 1) yes. 2) Abs doesn't matter. the spindle for the same year/model will be the same, it is only the presence or absence of the abs ring which matters. 3) sedan spindle is different from hatch. sedan has drum over hub**** nice upgrade. 4)spindle IS specific to the knuckle, yes 95+ for 95+ and sedan for sedan, etc. 5) the rear spindle is FAR FAR different from the rear, but rear left to right makes no difference. |
