Consider the source. Jalopnik is all about the v-tec, yo. And euro trash status cars that are OK until they break then you have to throw them away.
Most of the writers were kids in the 90s and they think Hondas and Toyotas are cars and not soul-less driving appliances. They also think body kits and fart cans are cool. Proof that we didn't beat our kids enough back in the day.

Metro - vilified by those who've never owned them. Loved by those that have.

Im enjoying all of the 90's car bashing in this thread. :P I for one would cruise around like I was hot shit if I had a metro vert. Jalopnik can just give all of there's to me...

Drive my 'Vert every day. Small town, every time I go to town someone wants to know when I will sell it to them.

:rofl :thumb
And that "writer" was apparently born in the 90s, possibly after most Verts were already built. Let's see how long his engine can last or if he isn't too embarrassed to cruise around in public with his top down when he is old enough to have seen most of his contemporaries go to the boneyard.

Being up here in Washington like you yeah it's nice to have a vert for summer cruising, forget the AC and forget the price of gas and go till your heart is content. :cheers

I have no comparison. I drove about 400K miles during the 90's, but every mile of it was in a Metro.

:( Comments like this hurt man. VTEC is awesome! Being born in the early 90's isn't a bad thing either! The Hondas of the 90's are still amazing platforms.

I don't exactly agree with the story in question, but the generalizations are all about me! :lol

You can't really help when you were born so I don't hold it against you. Kids from the 90s can turn out OK with the proper guidance i.e. enough parental beatings to ensure good character. ;)

There is hope for those that suffer from v-tec, yo. Lots of internet support groups i.e. GMF :lol

My step kid was 18 in 1993, had a trust fund open up to him (he'd been hit badly by a car as a kid and the settlement was placed in trust). We went new car shopping together. I was mortified when he started looking at Preludes and Accords at the dealer.
I was relieved when he eventually settled on a '93 Firebird v-6.

Hond-otas have always struck me as the perfect car for people that don't really like cars - they work well, are good value and extremely reliable. I just could never muster much enthusiasm for them.

Three letters, NSX

If that (or the super Supra, if you prefer curvy cars) don't get your juices flowing, then you need to turn in your "I'm a car guy" card.

I was in high school in the mid ninetys.

We all were building gas guzzling V8's and smoking tires.
I had a nitrous 383 in a 73 Chevy truck.

I would venture to say Hondas are one of, if not the most, support platforms for aftermarket parts. They just get a bad rap because they are cheap and reliable, which makes no sense. It is exactly like a Metro. The CRX HF and Metro XFI both got amazing mileage, very reliable, and easy to work on.

I love the 4th gen Honda Civics.

I am coincidentally a huge VTEC fanboy too. It is exciting to 'pop vtec yo'. The tone change from the cams switching over is amazing.

As for MMM mentioning the NSX, well, yeah. The C30 is an AMAZING engine. I believe it runs on a true 90* V6, not the 60* BS you get in most V6 cars. A mid engine, RWD, 2 seater with everything you could want out of a car. Also, the Supra, doesn't even need mentioning. There are more 1,000 HP Supras than any other car I can think of.

I think Hondas get more crap than Metros do. I get way more flack about my Civic than I do my Metro.

The only Supras I ever liked were the ones that had inline 6s and manual trans. In their day, there were higher performing cars available. Teenagers lusted after Supras (girls mostly) but nobody took them seriously as performance cars - not in the USA. Their desirability stems from nostalgia. The performance cars that regular people could afford from the mid-80s to the mid 90s were still overshadowed by the 1960s and early seventies cars that came before them. Young people loved their Supras, older guys knew they wouldn't outrun their old Camaros. By the mid to late 90's, the cars kept improving and the old ones finally got used up. Because of the sh*t cars of the late 70s and the 80s, the old cars cast a long shadow.

Never thought the NSX was as super as the supercars they were built to compete against. I do remember a converstation with a co-worker in the early 2000s. He's 10 years younger than I am and there was an NSX for sale locally that he was drooling over. I looked at him like he was crazy and tried to nudge toward a 4 speed, 454 'vette I knew of for the same price. He looked at me like like I was crazy. we just had to disagree on that one.

You guys could do like they do on Jalopnik. Just call me one of the "olds" and continue with your lives. Just don't get close enough for me to whack you with my cane. :)

There is no way I could just cast some bull crap "you're old" statement and walk away. I like all cars. I obviously have my preference and so does everyone else. It is the narrow mindedness that hits me.

The NSX is like the GTR in the way that they are vastly cheaper than the super cars they are competing against. I'm not a big Vette fan. I think they were riding on the coattails of their name for too long. They have just recently started to take the name seriously and put out real performance cars.

I was just reading some stuff on the '67 Shelby GT500. Wow, what a beautiful car. But it is slow as dirt. Car and Driver ran a flat 15 second pass in the quarter mile with it in stock form. The '93+ Supras ran 15s NA and 13s with some forced induction. :hmm

I once read an article comparing the vert to the Miata of the time. They actually gave the vert really good praise. For the money, it was a great value. Of course the Miata was rated better if money was no object but they had respect for the vert.
