Headlights not working

K, now this one is kicking my butt royally. And I found an old post from from Johnny Mullet "08" about a burnt connection.

First, 96 Metro sedan 4 banger, so, occasionally, my lights wouldn't turn on but would eventually just come on. Over a week ago they just stopped working, finally got the chance to work on it, found Mullets post and sure enough found a pretty fried Wht/blk wire and plug. What looks to me to be the Brn/yel wire is about the same diameter as the wht/bk, to test it I jumped the two, lights still didn't come on but left turn signal did steady. If I don't turn the switch all the way to headlights my DRLs will stay on. This will get me through the mornings. But I'm stumped, am I connecting the wrong wires? I've poured over both the diagram supplied by Mullet and in my Chilton.

Ideas?

yeah I would say you jumped the wrong wire-the Geo Rating repair worked for me-(you could try searching it) basically extending your white/black wire to the plug which has a green and a black wire going to it-there is an extra slot where you can shove your white black wire (with a spade connector on it) in-when you plug it back in the lights should work-

K, found a plug that ONLY has A green wire and A black wire, nothing else. Found the extra space, dug around in my saved junk and found ONE female spade connector the exact right size complete a wire a little bigger than the wht/blk, rigged a quick jump just to check, thank for your post, frigging worked. Been getting irritated for several hours over the last two days. Simple fix, going to butt them now. Thanks again. :banana :banana :banana

Hi all,

Is there a way to change the whole connector instead of splicing it off to another or is this just the best way? LOVE THIS FORUM!!

You can replace the melted fusebox and the harness if you wish, but that would take a lot more time and parts.

Thanks for your help guys, Iwas just one step away to order a new switch when I read this forum. I found the exact same problem with my 95 Geo and fixed it in 15 minutes. :cheers
