I have been trying to find a good Honda Civic Forum and there are only three that I've come up with.

clubcivic.com
HondaCivicForum.com
civic forums.com

Does anybody know of any different Honda Civic forums which might specialize in MPG ratings? These three are lacking in that department.

Probably not. if you're looking for a forum as good as this then good luck...they don't exist.

I joined the corollaforum after I bought my corolla fleet and they're all unhelpful assholes

This forum rocks :rocker

Yea, I agree that this forum rocks with the helpful information you get. I've been trolling the civic forums to see how to increase civic's mpg's but they seem to lack that category. Kinda pisses me off because I just want some insight to how the fuelmisers on the civic forums do the voodoo that they do.

The best place I found is ecomodder. Kinda odd that the civic forums don't even want to go down the mpg hole. Grrr. Yes, I can find a few links but, dang, I shouldn't have to dig that hard in a civic forum to find the info I want.

At least on GMF I can throw out a query and a few folks would say what I need to do or at least post a link. I guess the civic guys are only about going fast and 1/4 mile times?

The thing is, that civics are highly prized by teenagers or other young-ish folk, for the purposes of hooning...

(To answer "What is hooning?" in advance...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoon

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hoon

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hoonigan

https://www.hoonigan.com/about-us

So there you go.)

In summary, the average civic driver wants a race car. Not a fuel-efficient grocery getter.

I hear ya, Mythstae, but, DANG, shouldn't there be at least ONE website dedicated to fuel efficiency? Or at least ONE thread among all of the threads? Maybe the fuel efficiency God's are trying to steer me away from researching the civic.

FWIW I don't know how hard you have to try with a Civic to get good MPG, depending on year.
My older sister has an '02 Civic; she gets mileage comparable to my own, but she drives faster and has/uses A/C.

There is one, and you found it. Ecomodder.com

There is very little brand specific "voodoo" to improving fuel economy. The main factors that apply to one apply to all.

Start with an engine that is as close to factory spec as possible, lower your drag through common aerodynamic modifications, reduce your normal speed by even a few mph, don't drive fast, decrease your coefficient of rolling resistance as much as possible, and operate the engine in the most efficient bsfc areas of its' fuel map.

Ok, so the last one was a little brand specific. :D

From what I've garnered from reading some postings, the '92-'00 has the best mileage numbers. They were the HF, VX, CF, though and were not the body style I will be interested in.

I've been pondering the Gen8 and Gen9 civics.....'06 to '13. But I just cannot find any mods which can up the mpg's. Guess they are so new and expensive the young kids cannot afford them? haha

Part of it is also suspension. Before 2001, the Civic's suspension was double wishbone up front, then for 7th generation they switched over to McPherson struts. Boy racers love the wishbones as they do handle slightly better and are easier to adjust.

I'll do the Civic dance every few years in the summer when I get sick of A/C not being able to keep me cool in city traffic. The circle I go around in consists of:
-5th Gen gets great mileage, but they are stupid easy to steal, parts have great resale value so they are also very profitable to steal, and the boy-racers jack up my insurance rates. Cheap, but the youngest ones are also 20 years old by now.
-6th Gen gets good mileage, almost as easy to steal, but VIN etching helps with killing the parts resale market. Still high insurance (compared to a Metro), but you get the option of all 3 body styles.
-7th Gen gets good mileage. Acceptable theft protection, insurance rates similar to the 6th gen despite being a newer car. No hatchback, and I'm not sure if I can fit an 8ft piece of dimensional lumber (2x4) inside of a coupe/sedan (which is a deal-breaker for me)
-8th Gen gets good mileage, but they are kinda pricey as of 2015. Also, of the 3 people I know that have had one, all 3 wrecked theirs within a few years of getting it.

and as a result, I still have a driveway full of Suzukis. Hopefully your quest will end more fruitfully than mine always have! I've found generation specific websites for marques as broad as the Civic or Corolla to be a bit more helpful. 7thgenhonda.com for example. Good luck!

Hooning also applies to the large trucks around here that people jack up, put big tires, smokestacks the size of a steam train, turn up the injectors, and blow massive clouds of black smoke. I tend to call these "small penis trucks". I grew up with tons of people who did the rice burner thing with Civics and such. It was like they thought tinting the windows, adding a bunch of stickers, and putting on some crappy exhaust tip would double the performance!

I was going to say ecomodder but you beat me to it. Maybe start a new forum?

That should be the first reply on every fuel economy thread in every forum ever. You can go further but then it becomes a hobby where you will never amortize the cost of the mods in fuel savings.

So a Hoon is a Chav with a car, usually a slammed/stanced Honda with a faux carbon fiber hood, Mugen decal, fart can and an incomplete body kit installation? (italics are mine). :D

Honda-Tech.com is alright. That is the site I use. In general, it is dominated by 'swag' or go fast builds. The 3rd Gen CRX gets amazing mileage. Comparable or better than our Metros.

"The original 1.3 liter car (chassis code AE532) had an EPA Highway mileage rating of 52 miles per U.S. gallon (4.5 l/100 km; 62 mpg-imp) [2] in 1984 and was reported to often achieve over 70 miles per U.S. gallon (3.4 l/100 km; 84 mpg-imp) in favorable driving conditions."

I have seen about 3 fuel economy builds on that site. There isn't much that is different from car to car to get better mileage. Ecomodder is your best bet. But if you want a forum with a TON of Honda information to keep your car on the road, Honda-Tech is amazing.

As for the typical Honda hate, :lol I bought my Honda for the fuel economy (30+ MPG) and ended up destroying that by 'going fast'. Most of the kids you see still have a fuel efficient Honda, they just want pretend it goes fast. My Civic still gets ~25 mpg city, which is decent for what it is.

EDIT: This has been my favorite "Honda MPG" thread ever.
