If I may say, you sure used an awful lot of legal argument after stating you are "not making a legal argument..." And if I may also say, you did quite an admirable job of doing so.. :thumb

I was trying to make the point that your legal definition wasn't the only valid one, but you wouldn't accept anything that wasn't legal. You left me no choice! ;)

So Miriam Webster was your "authoritative automotive source?" That seems like an interesting choice when MW won't/can't throw you in jail for disagreeing with their "opinion." :lol

No, but they can throw the book at you! :lol :oshit

I wish Paul would jump into this thread so he can be the final arbiter of what his vehicle really is.

I guess the Elio could have two thin wheels up front and then it would be a car.

I believe I had mentioned from the beginning that it may not be a motorcycle in all states...

Oh Dayle... Of all the people to want to ask to settle anything that may be considered a matter of fact about the Elio, Mr. Elio himself seems to be a pretty poor choice. It wouldn't surprise too may people if he told us it really was a combination helicopter/spaceship/wheelchair/time machine super freezer...

In helicopter mode it could take off vertically from your driveway...

As a spaceship travel at hypersonic speeds non-stop to your destination 3,000 miles away (getting 84 mpg of course)...

Then as a wheelchair either allow you to legally park in any handicapped space without requiring a placard on the mirror or you could even just sit on top and drive it up and down the aisles while you shop.

Oh yeah, as a time machine/super freezer? If he actually produces one for you to be driving, it must now be decades in the future and Hell froze over.

Well that works out to around $107 in gas, so not that bad for hypersonic transit...

Not at all bad. :thumb And remember that's in today's gas prices and this would really be happening no less than 20 or 30 year in the future, which is all the more reason to put a deposit on one. In fact, the longer it takes to deliver them, the more you will save.

If it takes long enough to deliver them, you might even make money every time you fill it up. :D

The law is meant to be finite and not open to interpretation. "Common sense" is really just instinct, whatever seems right. If 4 wheels is the line for a motorcycle, then that's all there is! Can't argue with legality.

Sure you can! People get paid to argue with legality. We call them lawyers. :deal That's not the point I'm trying to make here, though.

I kind of knew what you meant, I just wanted to be a more neutral third part :P

I find it hard to call something a motorcycle when you are in the 'driving position'. I also find it hard to call something a car without a enclosed cabin. The slingshot and T-Rex are more motorcycle than the Elio. I think they should make a crossover category and offer up some basic protection standards to be improved upon in the future.

I doubt that Elio will ever be produced at any volume more than the Tucker 48. The effort is severely undercapitalized and long overdue. Other than the deposits taken for cars never delivered, the investor community has shown little gullibility. If available there is probably much less consumer demand than for the Smart Car, which was hyped as something special, but few went for it. Vehicles like this might be more suitable as a kit car or produced in low volume in a closed former big box store - at a price much greater than the claimed $6,800. I am not upset that those who put down deposits on the Elio are being cheated. They are grown ups and should know the risks. Its not as if Paul Elio is selling anti gravity shoes. He has been claiming year after year to have the next big thing, ready for next year. The thing that he does not have is adequate capital, even with $1,000 deposits trickling in, it is not enough.
