I have come across some more old electronics that an owner was looking to dispose of while I was working on their other stuff. These include an old Aiwa reel to reel auto player/recorder as well as an 8 track recorder. Do these have much value as antiques? I also found an old mechanical Smith Corona typewriter. It is all metal and made like a tank unlike something made these days. Conor |

The reel to reel and 8 track are separate units. I don't know if they would connect easily or not. Conor |

Old typewriters are pretty cool, but maybe that's just my inner hipster. |

i know there is a company that takes mechanical gaming keyboards and fits the type writer keys to the switches to make a "retro" style keyboard. they make the entire key board look like its some steam punk cyber thing, pretty cool custom boards but they are like 800 bucks. |

That stuff is probably worth nothing. I am the only person I know that still has reel to reel tapes and even i would not buy it. The typewriter could be worth a very small amount for someone doing steam punk stuff. |

I figure I will put these items on eBay and see what happens. The typewriter I have looks to sell for $50 or so with $20 shipping. The audio stuff is all over the board. I will need to look up the models and see if they are even worth trying to sell or not. I also ended up with a bunch of CRT monitors and have stripped most of them of their copper components for scrapping. The cord, degaussing coil, and yoke all have quite a bit of copper in them. Any other circuit boards and aluminum heatsinks also get put in a bin as they are worthwhile to recycle. 4x of them are loaded into the Metro for proper recycling today. I always keep 3-4x of the best ones on hand in case someone doesn't have the money or want to pay for a flat panel and give them away when I sell a used computer, but over and above that, they are just space hogs. The funny thing about the CRTs is everyone wants a black one. The white ones always get passed over so I usually end up scrapping them. I had a couple black ones that were fuzzy as can be and a some white ones with a beautiful crisp and clear picture and no one wanted them. They were also a much better brand and model for their time while the others were just consumer grade junk. It is funny how people are. Conor |

It is an Aiwa. It looks like a briefcase with a handle. There is no model but it says Solid State and then there is a Japan 101 on the back. Conor |

I got 5 old tv's in my garage since they work perfectly good I hate to throw them out-I will use them as replacements for the 2 tv's in my house as they wear out-however it may be awhile-the tv in the den was purchased in 1969 and works great- |

that particular reel to reel has little to no value. look for Teac, and Akai units from the 70s some fetch good money. I recently found a Teac at the curb in my neighbor hood. took it home and sold it for a bill. it was/is in very nice shape though. |

Gotcha! I was noticing that value of reel to reel stuff was all over the board. I guess this one just isn't a desirable one. Anyway, I will give it a try on eBay and then send it to the scrappers if it doesn't sell. I come across so many of the older style CRT TVs and monitors. While they have value to retro gamers for certain games like Duck Hunt or others where you shoot a gun because of the much faster refresh rate, you are lucky to be able to get rid of them without having to pay $25 or more per unit in this area. I can get rid of them in small quantities but I cannot take large lots. There seems to be a regional dislike for this type of TV here. I think part of it is that we are in a rural area where you must have cable or satellite to get TV and many of the newer receiver boxes no longer offer support for older analog only TVs. One thrift store in the area has partnered with a computer company to recycle unwanted electronics and that is where most of mine end up. I just have to take them in as I get them, not in large lots. Considering that you can pick these up for $5 or less each at most yard sales around here, I would probably keep one or two and then free of the garage space for more important things like a Geo! IT always gets me when someone has a $30,000-40,000 car (not a Geo of course!) parked outside in the elements when they have a perfectly good garage full of yard sale junk. For those not from my area, yard sales are a way people get rid of things they can't stand to throw out but thrift stores won't accept as a donation. Although I have stumbled upon some treasures, most of the people having these sales would be better off throwing the stuff away and spending that nice sunny day outside. I mean they spend an entire weekend stuck at their yard sale and sell $40 worth of stuff. That isn't worth it to me. A neighbor of mine once had a yard sale and he allowed me to sell a couple used computers in the sale. I sold the computers for more than 10x what he made in the entire sale. Conor |

The 8 track is a Viking 811 recorder/player. Is that worth anything? Conor |
