Semi truck nearly sideswipes me; caught on my dash cam

I was merging onto the freeway going around 55 or so (into the slow lane) when a semi truck cuts into the lane I'm merging into going 75 mph or so forcing me off the road. He then nearly rear ends a slow moving pool-cleaning truck and then almost merges into a ford ranger in the center lane. Just to note, he was not in the slow lane as I was merging...he was in the middle lane but switched just before I entered the freeway nearly sideswiping me. Truckers are just awful drivers nowadays, he didn't even bother to honk to warn me...I saw him switch in my side view mirror. Had I not looked I would have been a road waffle :O

I feel like my "road runner" horn doesn't get any respect. Here is a great instance where a large air horn would get some heads turning... if you had a bigger horn, I bet that semi driver would have looked back wondering where the other truck was! One of my projects down the road will be upgrading the horn in my metro, preferably a large air horn, to scare the life out of the sucker that decides to cut me off.

Coche, he would have swiped me doing 70 + mph in the slow lane had I not moved out of the way. He was doing 75 (in a 60) in the middle lane and then switched into my lane (the slow lane) as I was merging into said lane without so much as warning me. It happens just off camera as he goes barreling past me nearly bumping into that slow moving white truck ahead of him

The way I see it, the truck was in the right line well before you started to merge. I base that on seeing the pickup that is in the middle lane beside the back half of the trailer. The pickup would have to be going well over 75mph in order to be passing the big rig doing 75mph[the speed you claim the rig was going] the pickup must have floored the gas pedal to be that far into passing the rig, since you claim the rig just merged into the right lane. It seems to me that the pickup is slowly passing the rig. I do see the rigs brake lights come on due to the slower moving pickup truck with the trailer that was ahead of you.

The only thing that irritates me about this video is the truck driver just barreling through the slow lane. That's why it's called the slow lane, not the fast lane. He was doing well in excess of the speed limit in a lane that is for slower vehicles potentially causing an accident. What if that truck ahead of him made a sudden stop for any reason at all? He would have plowed right into it. He left no out. I don't think that semi trucks should be in the slow lane. I have a person problem with semi trucks if it's not obvious by now. :lol They are dangerous, poorly maintained road hogs

It is interesting that something witnessed first hand will just about make you shit your pants and a video of it will barely make someone yawn.

I need to get my dash cam in the new Metro. I pulled it out of the old one when I sold it and haven't gotten it reinstalled.

Wide angle lenses will do that. I just don't see how this would ever be that scary unless you weren't paying attention.

That's what I thought.

Anyways, more importantly, why the hell isn't your hood bouncing around. Every year 3 geo metro windshields die a slow painful death due to improper latching techniques. "Fix your latch, fix your life!"

When I got my Geo, the windshield had (and still has) three cracks running through it; top, bottom, and passengers side. Last owner told me that the hood swung open on the highway and broke it. He showed me a slight mark on the roof and said it was from a bumper sticker that was on the hood. Well... at least the cars got a new hood!

Grr

remember folks. the video is EXTREME wide angle. you really do not understand how extreme until you are IN a situation like this and then watch the video and go huh and then it hits you.

the extreme wide angle and the "all seeing eye" of the camera absolutely changes everything. this is actually why I run two camera's one NARROW FOV so its more "like what we see" though still quite a bit wider.

if you watch my turn cut off video you can see just how different it feels when you watch the Narrow FOV and the Wide FOV. totally changes the feel land vibe of the video.

that truck was really close he had to eat shoulder to miss it and he should not really have been in that lane (even though it was legal technically)

many of us may have misjudged that merge.

I agree with everyone else. Truck looks like it did nothing wrong. But; cameras lie.

I have known Aaron thru this forum for quite a while.
In EVERY case when he has written something, he has always been honest.
Once again, Cameras lie.---Aaron does not.
