Have you checked the plug to see if it vibrated out of the socket?
I'm assuming you mean where I plug it into the wall (ceiling). No, I haven't checked that but I believe it is a problem in the box since tapping on the box will kill the power (or make it look like the power has been killed).

Not necessarily, I've had beams go bad for all sorts of reasons. I had a customer that kept telling me his beams were bad after I replaced them several times. Sure enough they kept going bad, I was beating my head everytime he called me! This went on for 3yrs normally around March though June. I did a new set up for him originally. Come to find out during that time of the year the sun would burn out the beam trigger because it was always on and he always had his door open. If you are telling me that the beam sensors are right up against each other. Then there is a possibility that has happened. Tapping on the unit and the light goes off and on tells me that it's the trigger synchro relay. It's all connected, you might want to trace the beam wires to where they are connected into the unit. Pull them and make a jumper between the connections to see if that works. Just let me know I'll be happy to help anyway I can.

12/04 is the MD. Interesting developements...

I climbed on a ladder and tapped on the unit. Lights blinked on and off as they did before. So, I pulled the power and took the cover off so I could see what was loose. As soon as I pulled the cover the problem went away. I did find that an old metallic chunk of the left over gear assembly (which I replaced 6 months ago) fell out of the unit. At least I HOPE it is a old chunk and not a new chunk (looked like half a greasy washer but I think it was part of a collar that wrapped around the shaft). Anyway, the cover is now off and the unit is working fine. I'll leave the cover off for a week or so and see if the problem comes back. I only use the door on my days off so it will probably be at least 7-8 days before I figure out if it is "fixed".

Hey, quick question:

A year ago my chain was pretty loose. It hung down a bit and snagged/made noise. So, I tightened it up and soon after my gears broke. Now I am scared to death to take slack out of the chain. How much can I tighten it AND how can I be sure not to damage the gears again due to the tightening. It could have been just a coincidence but I am gun shy at this point.

Glad it's working for you. Maybe the piece of the old gear was hung up in the unit and shorting it out. A rule of thumb on the chain... snug up tight, 1/4 turn back. It should get tight when it goes up then relax. Same thing going down.

Good luck
