I say buy one... reverse engineer the motor. Find out everything about them.... build our motors to those specs....then put them in our little shit boxes

35 MPH really isn't 'safe' by many standards. That is the whole reason people argue scooters shouldn't be on road ways. I realize the official top speed, if ever released, would be higher. But what good is test driving a car that only does 35 mph? |

funny how he threw the bugatti veyron comparison in there about the engine. i got to drive one but was not able to film anything as i did not have a gopro at that time. it reminds me of the am general hummers. made of about 7 different manufacturers parts. ford, chevy, and jeep/chrysler to name a couple for the hummer. elio has a geo engine, camaro steering wheel, looks like mustang side windows and a slew of other parts from many different makers. a mutt one might say? he also keeps calling it a car. is it not a motorcycle? this 35 mph "limitation" that apparently has been imposed on people test driving the Elio has been in effect for some time now. I remeber another video of a test drive where the driver emtioned something about it "being limited to 35 mph," with no explanation of why or how it was limited. There likely is something (ELSE) less than flattering Mr. Paul isn't sharing with the world about his E-thingy - maybe its about to fall off, I mean fall apart. ![]() Whats funny about comparing a custom built, roughly 1,000 hp and nearly 1,000 lb ft torque engine to one that only in it's wildest dreams will produce 55hp/58 lb ft. ? ![]() And i say in its wildest dreams, as that organization does not strike me as the kind that would be using a completely spec rebuilt G10. Dollars to donuts it has < minimum spec compression. The E-thingy is legally considered so in ~47 states.

Never underestimate the value of having something real out in the world, driving around, even if it has a speed limiter. They've been toting this prototype, and the one before it, all around the country for years so people have something real to see, touch, sit in, and blog about. Without that, I doubt Paul would have any believers at all anymore. |

And while you are absolutely right about that, at the same time, notice he is striking out getting "accredited" investors and has failed to score the big one. That 35 mph speed limit/limiter (we don't know which) can be a BIG red flag to someone who is contemplating investing tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars. The "driving around" vehicle may have been steadily luring in depositors 100-$1000 at a time, but it (along with other factors) may be scaring the big fish away. We will never know, in no small part due to Elio's historical reluctance to address simple facts about what it does have in favor of promises of what it will be. When I test drive a used car, I get up to high way speed to make sure there aren't any issues. I'd never invest a dime in something that I can't see move past the speed of a golf cart down a hill with the wind at it's back. |

What gets me is if you google plasma coated cylinder walls in how far that has came and this is suppose to be in a $6800 car. another few things strike me is 35 mph speed limit yet they claim 84 mpg doing 60 mph and if that isn't enough the gap difference in 49 mpg in city and 84 on highways. |

The 35 MPH speed limit(er) may be about insurance issues... |

I wish Elio success, but my old beater Metro is looking better all the time. It would take a long time to make up a $6800 difference from the cost of the el-cheapo Elio and driving and maintaining my old Metro. Similar technology. Being promised a warranty when there is no actual Elio car is kind of misleading. Maybe he should make a deal with Harbor Freight to build the cars in China with a Predator motor. |

So ChrisFix was able to pop open the hood and snap a quick glimpse of a G10. A very quick glimpse. Here is my question. How did they connect the tranny to the engine. With the Elio rep lurking at the front of the engine bay like he was trying to keep ChrisFix from filming the engine it make me wonder what was inside of the engine bay the rep was trying to have not filmed. ChrisFix should have zoomed into the engine bay so potential investors could see the power plant and what kind of transfer case is inside of that vehicle. Seemed to me that the Elio rep was there to keep secrets from the public instead of sharing those secrets. |

It's all Metro under the hood, no way they spent the money to make an adapter to put some other trans in there. The reason they don't want a bunch of photos is that will break the illusion that the brand new engine and tranny are what go there. It's also an area that doesn't seem to have gotten a lot of finishing work so careful examination would show all the places where the Metro was hacked apart and welded back together. |

FTFY As far as I know, these numbers do not come from actual measured performance of the vehicle(s) they have, they are calculated predictions based on a calculated/predicted coefficient of drag of the chassis and the expected (not measured) efficiency of the new engine to be. Nothing meaningful can be inferred from the gap in highway/city mileage without knowing important performance parameters such as Cd, engine efficiency, transaxle gearing, and most importantly, and a BSFC map of the engine. And a detailed account of the conditions used to get these numbers. And speaking of transaxles, is anyone aware of ANY Elio press statements, promises, wet dreams, etc about the "transaxle to be?" Even in their most recent 'old news" press releases showing video of the engine in a test stand from several months ago, I can't recall any "who what when where" about the transaxle being designed, built, tested, produced, etc. Unlike the engine thatwe know (believe) is being developed by IAV, from where is the transaxle going to magically appear, and what will be the gear ratios? You mean "may" show, not "would" show, right? Do you know things about the Elio that you're not sharing with us? ![]() Dayle I do believe you just summed up their entire marketing strategy quite well. ![]() Does anyone have any good reason to believe it's not just a Metro 3 speed auto?
