Does anyone have any good reason to believe it's not just a Metro 3 speed auto?
Cause those things suck.
well thats the reason it wont go any faster than 35mph its not that the elio is governed that transmission just sucks that hard :rofl
I did 85 in mine just the other day! :rocker Doesn't mean they don't suck in other aspects :D
and survived to post another day buy a lotto ticket for all that luck :whistle but you have the sedan so idk :lol worse? better?

It is a newer 3 speed, but it is still garbage. I can't believe they sold a 3 speed auto in the 2000's. I also think the 4 cylinder is probably a little bit more reliable at those engine RPMs than the 3 cylinder, but whatever. I made it to today. Check.

Reverse trikes are like $20,000+ generally. The issue of any motorcycle is weather. It is 100 degrees+ daily where I live and I would not want to be out on a motorcycle every day as my main mode of transportation. It also rains daily here too, so that is an issue with a motorcycle (open top is what I am referencing). The elio has a closed top, which allows creature features and an escape from weather.

Not to mention is gets better fuel economy and is a third of the price. The Can-Am Spyder manages 36 MPG and costs over $20k. This gets 84 MPG and is less than $7k. It is a hypothetical no brainer.
I would not want the Elio as my main mode of transportation. I watched the video I can see that it is enclosed. I can understand the weather problem. I will check in on the prices of the reverse trikes they are selling. I'm guessing $10,000 to $15,000. What I am saying is the frame and body including the front wheel covers looks very close. I bet someone has a reverse trike that has been built for fuel economy. The right engine and few aerodynamic mods and you could easily be in the same range. We shall see what becomes of this. The price and 84 MPG are estimates at best; hypothetical. I'm not trying to knock the idea, and I hope he is successful.
How about a Morgan ? The price of those make the Elio look like a bargain. But, you can actually purchase the Morgan. Morgan has been in business for 102 years. Few use the Morgan as a daily driver.

$40,000 for a side by side? No thanks. There are plenty more appealing options available, just like the Morgan, but at a lower price (iirc). I like the Elio for the enclosed cockpit. If anyone wants to replicate the idea but actually produce it, I'd be cool with that.

I'd like the Elio better if it had a rear window. The rear seat would obscure a window. I don't like depending upon side mirrors or a rear camera. I've read that the side mirrors are good enough, but I'd still like a rear view mirror.

Just some "double hearsay" (what some guy said some guy from Elio told him) from about a year ago...

'Could be' a window in it but, you could not see out of it with a rear passenger, and the rear headrest would block the view. Also it would 'heat up' the trunk area, show your stored 'valuables', and add weight and expense..... therefore I doubt it.
Yep, using the same scale they must have used to come up with the $6,800 price, adding a rear window added would probably increase the price to $6,802. :lol

Depending on side mirrors alone for rearward visibility is definitely something that takes some getting used to. At least the width of the Elio body is considerably narrower than a normal configuration, which would offer a notably better view of whats directly behind using side mirrors alone than a wider car with no direct view to the rear would.
