political correctness is the same thing as respecting other people and their feelings.
:hmm I'm going to slightly disagree. I see political correctness as hiding your true opinion so you don't appear 'racist' or 'prejudice' to anyone. Respecting other people and their opinions doesn't mean you have to hold back or change your opinion. Obviously there are lines.

Anyway. Flag came down, a moment of silence. Well, now that we have grieved, let us move on.

Why is ANYONE targeting the American Flag? That is the issue I have a MAJOR problem with. It is representative of our current country and I know a ton of men and women, myself included, that will not stand to see it removed.

I'm already sick of kids not saying the pledge, I'm already sick of people standing on our flag, and I'm already sick of hearing people say it needs to be removed.

I was raised in the south and I've seen it represented both ways. I've seen people who are very polite and politically correct in public turn into the most racist people you've ever met. A flag doesn't determine that, even when people try to use it to.

Any government agency or affiliate should be representing the entire population as a whole. That's where our state and federal flag come in. Fly both above buildings in which we deem it necessary to fly the flag. Personally I think there needs to be more American flags flying. How are we supposed to feel united and as one big team in this era? No flags to rally behind, constant critical shit posted online, and until recently our citizens were not equal. Of course we are having problems with kids not saying the pledge. Who would pledge to a country that again, until recently, didn't view them as an equal citizen.

Does the confederate flag encompass every citizen? No.
Does the LGBT flag encompass every citizen? No.
Does the Christian flag encompass every citizen? No.
Does the Nazi flag encompass every citizen? F#@k No.

Then they don't belong on any government buildings.

Does the federal flag encompass every citizen? YES! Fly it proud!
Does the state flag encompass every citizen living in that state? YES! Fly it proud!

This is not about race. This is not about history. This is not about southern pride. This is not about taking away your personal right to own and use the flag.

This is about not segregating our citizens in any way. When we are segregated we are weak. When we work together we are strong.

If the flag not being on your government building is enough to suppress your southern pride, then you don't have enough of it. Fly your pride in your home, your car, w.e. just not on the government buildings. Decide what it means to you and represent. Take pride in the fact that you live in America where everyone gets to be represented, not just the (ever shrinking) Majority.

----------------------

Everything else is just the media. Its always the media. Do you really think this would be such a big deal if the media wasn't pumping out lie after lie after lie 24/7? On both sides, Get off your Facebook (actually there's prob enough LGBT stuff to mask over the flag for now) Turn off the TV and think about the issue without all the fear mongering and just bull shit that's being pumped out of it.

To those of you using the term "Liberal Agenda" in a negative light, I would encourage you to simply google Liberal around ohh 1765.

Potato offends, now that's funny.

I don't get the big deal, that flag thing has been around for ever, seems like government micro management to me. I am for let it be. Don't think, do feel, don't touch gov control etc.

At first glance it does look like an isis flag. Just like you did I then read the story and found out just what was on the flag.

Desmond, you make some good points, but I think the problem reaches further than having the rebel flag on government buildings. The rebel flag is being censored from society, and being erased from history. At the same time that the rebel flag is being banned, the American flag that I recognize and fought for is getting gender reassignment surgery and being flown boldly where the rebel flag is forbidden. The folks who fly the gay flag where the rebel flag is forbidden do not give a shit if I am offended by it, which makes them hypocritical. They are demanding that I tolerate their lifestyles, while they forbid mine.

GMF members:

I believe you have the right to say anything in America.

I also believe the rules in GMF are for everybody's safety, UNTIL THE BOSS SAYS DIFFERENTLY.

Thus I post a copy of some of the rule the Boss has on the home page of GMF. I don't want to stir up anything nor hurt anybody's feelings, I just want to show the rules. :deal

I think some people may not understand the whole negative emotional response to this Rebel flag issue.

What you are dealing with here is emotions and not just your rights to free speech.

Imagine yourself as a small black kid in the south , being woken up in the middle of the night by a bunch of men breaking into your house and taking your father in his underwear most likely ...beating the crap out of him in the front yard while they are all dressed in white robes, white hoods, all carrying torches and one of them has a huge Confederate Battle Flag. After they are done beating the crap out of your dad , then leave him there along with a large burning cross stake on your lawn.

Now would you want to ever see that flag again ? because that flag is and forever will be associated with the KKK weather you like it , agree with it or acknowledge it. If you Google right now "KKK rally" and look at the pictures and videos ...WHAT IS THE MOST prominent think that you'll remember if I took the picture away after showing it to you for only a second or two..THE Battle FLAG.

Now some will say ...why do we have to sub-come to peoples emotions ?

Society walks forward only as fast as it slowest member. If we can not shed the things that hold us back, our progress will be a slow one. There was a time for the Rebel flag , and it's time has passed. The war is over , the union is one and there is no way that holding on to that flag and it's new "meaning" be helpful to the present society and our forward momentum.
