A new car is rising

some people say the zz1 motors are no good, turns out there was a casting problem in the 02-and early 03s but it was gone by 04 which is what year mine is. 112k just like a new car!
we also have a 12 Civic with just over 100k it is tight as a drum I can recommend either one!
the great thing about the Vibe is you pay less cause it is a re-branded "Toyota".

Casting problem. I've seen those. My dad has a R18 in his '07 civic and it cracked the cylinder block during regular operation. I guess it is far past the 10 year extended warranty too.

I do want to find a car that I can personally maintain and see 100k and even 200k miles without major incident.

:rofl I don't know that the Type R would be a 4-door car either. I thought it was a 2-door hatchback. Anyway, it is probably far above my price range and likely to stay that way for years and years due to carrying the Type R insignia.

I'd recommend enjoying this experience. Go DRIVE THEM ALL and see what one YOU like.

My 2 cents are in for the Mirage. I run mirageforum.com and the owners there love their cars just as much as the Metro owners do (in fact, we have a lot of former Metro owners).

Not so fast

The Matrix/Vibe is a rock-solid car as far as reliability goes. My mother bought one new in '06, and it's never given her problems. Very practical, decent mileage (33 average for her), tons of space. That said, I would never get one myself. The motor's loud and buzzy, the gas-pedal is hair-trigger sensitive, and the seating position is awkward, with the steering wheel right on top of the pedals. There's no way for me to get both my legs and my arms comfortable. At 4'11", it works for her, but I don't see how it could be comfortable for anyone taller. I've driven it from Georgia to Oregon, and did not enjoy it one bit.

I used to marvel at how much smoother and more comfortable my Cavalier was compared to her car. That tell you anything? :lol I also think my Metro is more comfortable than that Matrix.

Based on what I like, I'd end up driving my '89 Honda. It isn't really what I like anymore. It is what is reliable, has AC, and can fit a child in the backseat. That is my only criteria and I have personally chosen a 4-door hatchback for that purpose.

The only real reason I am getting rid of the Metro at this time is the AC has gone out for the 3rd time and I do not wish to deal with it anymore.

Cheapest car you will ever buy is the one you own.

If you like the geo 00 just pay to have the engine and AC redone, and you are off and running. Is the interior okay?

:hmm It is alright I'd say. The carpet is stained beyond any imaginable repair. It feels like someone poured fiberglass resin on parts of it.

The cost of the engine repairs, for someone to do it, toll in the $1000s. The AC isn't even free to diagnose around here.

I have bought a 'new' car. It is considerably larger than the '00 Metro and gets better mileage. I'll post some photos before too long.

I'm already diving into the world of OBD2 and the Torque app.

That's a honda fit engine...guessing only a little bit better fuel economy...but at the same time, probably a lot more comfortable.

Not a lot of room in that engine bay to work on it!

It is a Fit, which is more or less what I was in the market for. I was kind of stuck on a Honda and I wanted a 4 door hatchback. It gets ~35 MPG city with the 5 speed manual. It is a lot better than my AUTO Metro.

Not a lot of room to work on it, but all my engine bays are tight.

I'll get some photos before too long, but there are about half a dozen things I'm immediately changing about the vehicle. For the price, I cannot even begin to complain.
