Not so fast

If I was going to get a new car, it would be a red Fit with a stick. Good stuff. :thumb

:hmm Well, mine isn't new, but you nailed the rest haha.

I do have a considerable amount of Honda loyalty. I've always liked Metros as work horses and I may still use mine. But the Fit has a lot of features that my Metro just never will have again.

I forgot to get some yesterday afternoon. I'll be honest, having some family issues. Anyway, this could pass as my car

Posted Image

It is a 2007 Honda Fit Base model (5-speed manual) with 68,000 miles on it. For the price, considering the miles, I really couldn't pass it up. I did some financing with my bank to hopefully improve my credit. It ended up being quite affordable.

I've got some things ordered for it already. I'll get some photos this weekend or sooner of the things I think needed replacing.

Alright, here are some photos I took when I was putting the seat covers on. The car is definitely not MINT, but it is in 'good' condition and everything that needs to work does so well.

I think it is about on par with my '00 Metro. Is it noisy? Yeah, I suppose so. You can definitely hear the road. But compared to driving with the windows down (AKA no AC) it is silent.

It is the BASE model and it is cheap. But I sort of like those types of cars.

None of my cars really excel in creature comfort, so this is significantly nicer than anything I have owned. My '74 beetle has ZERO noise deadening and a straight pipe exhaust. My '89 civic has factory noise deadening, but a 3" exhaust and I drive with the windows down. The '00 Metro has factory noise deadening but I drive with the windows down also. So in comparison, this car is quiet. But if you compare it to a Chevy Suburban or Nissan Titan, it is noticeable.

looks pretty clean and its safer for the kid than the metro! and yes Honda does go cheap on the sound insulation. ZXT is the sound deadening man!

That isn't true, unless you chipped out all the tar board off the floor. Now if you had said "My 74 Beetle might as well of had ZERO noise deadening", then you'd be spot on.

Haha, tar board. I have aftermarket floor boards in my Bug and no carpet or anything like that. It may as well have no sound deadening! And if it does, I can't tell :D

The Fit is definitely not clean, the photos wash out some of the panel misalignments (replacements basically), some paint overspray from a new fender, dings, dents and scratches. It is safer and more spacious for sure!

Ok, that is zero, but it isn't the factories fault.

:hmm You're right! I'll blame the dozen owners before me :D

I'm really enjoying the new car. The only thing that bugs me about it is AC with a manual trans. It is weird... The AC clutch engages and it just feels like all the power has been robbed away.

:rocker A/C is worth it when the actual temp is nearly 100 and it feels like 120.

If anyone is considering a new car, but they want to stay in line with the Metro, the Fit is a decent option. I'll keep track of my fuel economy on Fuely. I will say it is much larger inside. The back seat is at least 4" deeper in the foot space category. It makes the rear baby seat much more comfortable for the passenger in the front. It also has side curtain airbags and stuff like ABS that make it significantly safer in the event of an incident.

I'd be happy with a Fit too, I'd just not be happy paying for it! Even 10 years down the road, because it's stamped with "Honda" on it's arse, it'll still not be worth what people will be asking for them.

Boy, I'm a cheap SOB. Can I have an award for it now?

I financed it for $100 a month for 3 years. I spent awhile shopping, a bit of haggling, and some "this needs fixing" to get it at the price I did. But it was worth it. $3,500 for a '07 Fit with 68,000 miles. I chose to finance it because I have almost no credit. I did put down a couple hundred to please the bank loan agent. So I believe I'm paying just under $500 in interest over the 36 months.

The "Honda" name does basically equate to overpriced used cars.

My wife basically convinced me that we needed a newer car because our daughter was dying in the Florida heat without AC. The Metro just wasn't cutting it and between AC repair costs and the impending engine rebuild, it wasn't financially any better to stay with it than upgrade to this. EDIT: Also, keyless entry is amazing. Now I can run to the car, in the pouring rain, with my daughter on my hip, and just hop in the back seat. The Metro required me to manual open the front, reach around to the rear, open the door, and then get in.

Anyone have any experience with under the seat self powered subwoofers? I think I want one so that I can retain the entire rear cargo area for storage.

EDIT: Just to point out some issues with this car. It was in some accidents I found via a vin check and just looking at it. The front fender was trashed and replaced by an aftermarket one that doesn't line up well. The front bumper is a salvage piece. Some of the splash guard is missing. One of the doors doesn't appear to be original. Some of the interior molding is missing. The rear plastic area is scratched up. The seats all have minor stains. The driver door armrest is cracked. There is more, but it is mostly cosmetic things that just happen as a car ages. Mechanically, it is spot on though. A Honda manual trans will last longer than the motor easily.
