will this radio also work as a 'trunking'scanner. what about the cable is it propriety or can a guy with a soldering gun make one? one thing for sure the price is right and in this set is very useful. |

I want an in-expensive scanner, maybe I should start over with the phone app? hard to believe that Baofeng is less than thirty dolllars. seems like a great deal/unit. may be I should get certified. Edited by 68custom, Apr 5 2017, 10:07 AM.

Figure out what you want to listen to and that will drive what scanner you'll need. Full digital decoding ones are more expensive. Go here and see what they show for your area. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/ |

Picking up a Kenwood 430s transceiver this week. Still need to put an antenna on the roof. |

Been playing for the past couple of months. Bought a 2 meter mobile radio (Kenwood 281A) and have been playing with that. Been participating in a couple of local nets. In the last week I picked up a DMR radio - an TYT MD-380. Repeaters are linked all over the world - pick a talk group and key up and you're in. Fantastic audio quality but there's not much of a challenge in making a connection. As long as you can hit the local repeater you can talk around the world. They also make an RF hotspot that ties into the internet so if there's not repeater around, you can go through that hotspot. |
