So I'll probably be buying rubber this year, but what to get? The Metro has cheap 175/65 14s on Mazda 626 rims, which I run a bit over sidewall rating pressure http://web.archive.org/web/20060213020513/http://www.officer.com/article/article.jsp?siteSection=19&id=27281 Are Ecopia etc tires worth it? And, I run load rated class E 10 plys on my Ram van; should I switch to the special LRR light truck tires (I don't haul) or just run the class E at the rated 80psi? I could find any data. |

Ahh, they also seem to have an Eco model: http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/versado-eco-grand-touring-all-season-tires?cat=18 with LRR compound, about the same price; $68 http://simpletire.com/toyo-versado-eco-175-65r15-113000-tires any comments on them? |

I would run the cheapest tire between the two on your van since you aren't hauling and the 10 plies are bit heavy for a van that won't be hauling 3200 lbs a tire. Ten plies are best left for hauling in the class 2 range of vehicles and up. |

I'd had the 10 plys for ~4 years on the B3500 (and used to haul tile materials) but now it's a camper. I'd recalled someone here runs 80 psi trailer tires on their Metro for LRR. At ~$150 each the Ram's tires are a little pricey, LRR Generals are ~$107, so even if the type E at 80 psi rolled a little easier than the 44psi LRRs it might take a while to save $160 in gas... I'm having 3.21 diff gears put in next week (current rear is shot at 200k) so that will make a good highway difference. |
