It is getting too hard to be a cheap bastard all the time...

I bought my new Metro and it needed several things including hatchback strut and Front Left CV joint. I ordered both parts off Ebay at a substantial discount over what they charge at my FLAPS. Both parts were delivered in a timely manner but both were the incorrect parts. I'll probably have my Metro in the air for the next week or so waiting on a replacement CV. Ugh!

Wait until you have to buy a complete gasket set. Good set is $150 at napa.

Care to link us to the auctions? I have a pretty damn good record of getting the right part. The one problem I had was from AAP and the machining was wrong, the part was correct.

Being a Cheap Bastard has never been easy. By it very nature being a Cheap Bastard means sometimes taking the hard road to save a few bucks and doing things yourself whenever possible. Even as the prices of nearly everything is going up, a true Cheap Bastard will find the best deal available.
One example...... Sure it's easier to turn up my furnace in the winter. But being a Cheap Bastard I choose to spend time and a great deal of effort cutting, splitting, stacking and hauling wood.
Another example....sure it's easy grab lunch on the road somewhere during my work day. But instead I choose to go to the grocery store, buy my food, make a lunch, pack my cooler and save a few bucks.
Being a Cheap Bastard was never meant to be easy......just embrace your cheapness (as I do ) and accept the fact that you have chose to take the harder path.

I wonder if there is a book on being a cheap bastard? I've always been a cheap ass, but this sounds a bit further than that. I need guidance.

A close cousin to the Cheap Bastard & the Cheap Ass is something known as the Tightwad. Perhaps this might help?

Glad I could be of assistance. Of course shop around for the book before just buying it from Amazon. Maybe hit up a few used bookstores, flea markets, yard sales etc.

It wouldn't help. Parts coming in with one number on the box and another inside.

Oh, I did get my new speakers at Walmart for $27 a pair on closeout and later price matched them with Amazon for $17 per pair. I'll do a writeup in the audio section soon...

actually, it takes a lot of research to be a true cheap ass.

if you don't do the research and get the wrong part it often means you do it right because you do it twice.

when a cheap bastard finally spends his money it's one thing, but spending the money the second time to replace a part ordered in error really sucks. :P

I did a lot of research. Couldn't help it that the wrong part was put in the correct box and sold as the correct part on Ebay. It is hard to be a cheap bastard but seems as though it is really easy to be a dumb ass and ship the wrong stuff.
