Well, it worked on and off to the point where I just said to hell with it and screwed the bumpers back in. I'm back to "manual mode" with it for now. |

My 99 does the exact same thing. When I got it the bumpers were adjusted out too far & I was getting wind noise from the hatch. It was acting like a sail & catching the wind. Adjusted them down to get rid of the noise & now it takes 2 hands to open the trunk. Even when I keep the key turned all the way, I still have to lift up the hatch. Hatch struts seem ok. |

I would try a 'jerry rig'. Find some springs that will "screw" down over your bumpers. Screw the springs down one full turn over the bumpers. Screw the bumpers all the way down til they will hold the spring in place. cut the spring off at the point where it will still compress when the hatch is closed but as soon as the key is turned the spring will push the hatch up just enough to disconnect the hatch from the body, |
