CS130 Upgrade Questions; What model car does it come from?

I know this topic has been covered extensively but I still have a few questions. I have been researching for days with some unanswered questions.

What model of vehicle uses the the CS130 with the properly "clocked" mounting locations?

Are the 4 cylinder and 3 cylinder Geo engines the same for these alternator applications?

Does the generation of Metro matter (pre96 vs post 96)?

Where is the best place(currently in buisness) to order the new mounting bracket?

Redundant but: Will the 1.3l Tracker mounting bracket fit the 1.0l Metro?

This seems like a common upgrade, maybe we should create a sticky for this information.

Thanks in advance.

I hate to do this to you but you really should try searching. This is complicated enough that it's not an easy answer but simple enough that you should be able to find it.

I will find the thread you need in the meantime.

Honestly I have been searching for confirmation on these answers for the past 2 days. If I spend any more time trying to figure it out my wife might leave me. Haha

I am not 100% on these answers:

This I'm not sure. I know the high output 3.8L GM engine used it for a while, actually a lot of GM stuff used it.

Yes.

No.

Yes.

I got my mounting kit from Adventure Off-Road. Don't forget to get a wiring harness adapter!! It's worth every penny!

The alternator came off a late-80s Chevy C/K 1500 truck. The only difference was that the pulley on the new alternator had 6 grooves, and the belt only has 3, but they all found a groove to fit so it turned out okay. One thing I am dead certain of is that I will always have enough electrons for whatever I want to do with that car!! I posted some pics of it mounted on the G10 before I put the engine back in the car. Should be near the end of my Engine Rebuild Log thread.

My alternator of choice is the cs144, and it takes up a little more space than the cs130. I run the cs144 in the stock location, so there should be plenty of room for the cs130 in that same location. Make sure to post a pic for us when you get your cs130 mounted!

Here is my cs144

To make things a little more fun here is what I have going on.

This is the old amp that did ok with the stock alternator. Rated at 500 RMS I can't remember what the birth sheet was on this one. I have been running it for about 4 years.

This is the new amp that is causing some problems for me. The birth sheet says 1350 RMS.

I am currently only running a 10" Alpine Type-R, but I have 2 Kicker CompVX 10" subs waiting to go in as soon as I figure out a box layout. Looking at about a 4 cubic ft vented enclosure tuned to around 30 hz for sq.

That is great how close the cap is to the amp. 18" or closer is best, and yours is right smack next to the amp. Nice.

It was a magic trick trying to get all that to clear the seat release cable and mechanism. Wouldn't have been an issue for me but when the wife tried to drive it I would get an ear full.

I think it is classier to retain the use of that cable. I was wondering about that when I was looking at the pic. I run a couple amps in my 1999 restoration in my signature, and I remember it was a pain getting them all placed right. That cap under the seat looks like it is at the limit for room...

I don't know if you were talking to me, but I mounted it and put it in the car about a year ago. Here's a shot of the engine all ready to go back in.

Is the cs144 upgrade a possibility if you don't want to remove the engine? The more the better in my eyes but I don't really want to remove the entire engine to do the alternator swap. I am looking for the biggest bang for the buck with this issue, if that means going with a 626 alternator I am willing to do that ad well. I have all the welding equipment and ability to make whatever I need ,but the easier the better also.

I have looked at that pic many times, but not specifically for the cs130. I just like looking at beautiful engines...

You would have made a good great "Scotty" on Star Trek. :thumb

I'm anxiously awaiting the day you start using Dilithium crystals in your conversions. :lol

Hmm... might have to look into those....

Perfesser, I had to go and peek at your engine one more time this morning while I was having my coffee. It is a nice way to start my day.
