Hey Guys, So, I bought this metro back in december. The guy told me he had replaced the alternator and had the receipt to show for it. It was purchased off ebay. Anyways, I may have soaked it going through a puddle back in spring and it stopped working. I'm not sure if it was the water or what but I replaced it with a new one from my local autoshop. Car has been running great but then all of a sudden, lights dim and car conks out. Well, I find that there is a small black wire that wasn't connected so I connected that to a screw on the alternator (I'm guessing ground?). I charged the battery and the dimm lights hasnt happened again. The car has been running fine once it gets going but I had the alternator tested and it's only pushing 13.27-29 at the battery. The car also has had some trouble starting but once I hit the starter a few times, it starts. I brought it down to the auto parts store and they tested the battery, starter and alternator with one of those electronic key pads. The battery passed and the starter passed but the alternator failed. I've heard it can be a bad ground but I've checked what I think are the ground locations and they seem to be fine. I don't know what to do. I'm thinking I may bring it into an autoshop and save myself more headaches about what I think is going on and they fix it for a couple hundred and call it good. Any suggestions?

Alternator tested bad, was new in the spring, ought to be under warranty, exchange it for a good one. |

Check your hot and ground battery cables. You can clean old cable connections and they look good but under the insulation are too corroded to carry all the current |

Should I swap the belts out? He told me that he installed a new one in December. I tightened it up and it doesnt make a squeal. It looks like it's spinning but maybe it's slipping. I guess I can swap it out and try it. I'll check my grounds again. My cables are a little beat up but it looks like everything has a solid connection. If all else fails, I'll take the alternator off and bring it into the shop while it still is under warranty. |

This sounds like old/bad cables. 13.29 is not horrable, but not good either, assuming everything else is good and not under load. Pull the altinator and have it tested by itself. If it test good, I would take a long good look at your cables for internal corrosion and clean ALL attachment points, especially grounds. ![]() While slightly related, I believe your issue with starting is a separate issue and more related to the starting issue we all have at some point. Link--->MMM starter theory 101 Fix your altinator issue first.

Do you think this would help with the starting situation? http://www.amazon.com/Clicky-Starter-Quick-Suzuki-Starters/dp/B00OQTP14G?tag=viglink20340-20 This link was included on the post you sent me. |

Well, I bought it to give it a try. Meanwhile, I'm going to check grounds and battery cables again today. If I can't find anything. I'm going to jack up the car and remove the alternator for a bench test. |

be sure and check the fuses/circuit breakers on the drivers fender. one is bolted in underneath. It gets corroded and everyone misses it. |

No picture, I was just reiterating that what OM was referring to was the fuse box under the hood on the drivers inner fender area. That is the location for all of your major power distribution to the rest of the car. If any of the connections are corroded then you can end up with the issue you are describing. |

Ahh ok, well I checked the main fuse box and the connections and they seem to be ok. I'm going to try and use this product and see if it helps. Can't hurt, it's only twenty bucks. http://www.amazon.com/Clicky-Starter-Quick-Suzuki-Starters/dp/B00OQTP14G?tag=viglink20340-20 |

Might be wasted money if the issue was related to the battery being low, but it's not like it's a collector car. |
