Just want to thank the guys on this forum. This is a very active community that helps other metro owners out of goodwill. I appreciate it, kind of awesome and makes me not want to give up on my metro when I run into problems.

Might be wasted money if the issue was related to the battery being low, but it's not like it's a collector car.
Exactly. Clean and brighten your battery cables thoroughly. Clean and brighten your connections to and on the alternator. Clean and brighten your grounds at the left inner fender and on the transaxle thoroughly.

Why butcher the electrical system until you verify everything else is operating normally? Especially when you run the risk of causing more problems before you even have the first one figured out? :shake

one problem that can happen is the rectifier diode can go out in the dash and not energize your alternator coil very rare but can happen.i bypassed mine with a new diode and wired it to the cigarette lighter.but you would get a battery light on when running

hey terry, i never got the battery light. so, i don't think it's that.

i did fix my starter problem, i installed the quick fix kit and it starts right up with power!

back to the alternator problem, i'm going to clean all the ground spots and test the output again. if it's still pushing out low, i will take it out this weekend and bring it into the shop for a bench test.

alright, so i removed the ground to the engine, sprayed wd40, scrubbed it down, tightened it back up, and voila! 14.5-14.6. This is great news but it also means that I may have bought a new alternator when I didn't need one last time. Now, I have to deal with my hood not clamping down.
