Remove Stud On Hub?

When I did my front struts yesterday, I found an odd thing when I remove the two front wheels. On the left hub, the four studs looked new with no rust and very nice threads. The nuts were the capped style, chrome, and looked "ok" but not new. On the right hub, there were three of those newish studs like the other side, and one rusted stump without a nut. The rusted stump was clearly shorter than the other three and looked original. I say stump, because it appears that it might be broken. It's definitely shorter than the other three.

On background, I had a new set of tires put on about 4 months ago at a local tire shop. They said nothing to me about studs.

Q: can the bad stud be removed with normal hand tools, or is this a special process? Does the hub have to be removed? I would assume it does. Could I take it to like a brake shop---do they typically replace studs?

Studs can be replaced on the car without much disassembly. Just need a good hammer.

On a '91? :hmm ...don't you have to pull the hub out, using a slide-hammer, to replace the wheel studs? Is it a 'vert?

You are right, My 91 has the new hubs from a 95+. I forgot. But even then, shops should have the equipment to swap out studs if they break them.
