Aw, man, you were so totally right, evmetro. I pulled off the back light and there is the hole through the metal. Looks like the bullet clipped about three wires, too. :(

It's left a hole that you can see right through from the inside back, right past the light to the outside.

If the police cut up your upholstery to recover the projectile, they ARE responsible for (at least) that upholstery repair. A new light shouldn't cost much... and the bullet hole in the sheet metal is a keeper. Makes for a cool story to go with your lovely little car. Its a pretty low trajectory to pierce the light AND the seat.... Was your car up on a hill??? or higher than the surrounding area?

If the bullet came through the back light and stopped in the back seat, it was probably slowed down quite a bit as it passed through the sheet metal behind the light. Sorry to hear about your bad luck with your car!
You're probably right. I just heard back from insurance today and they said they won't cover the damages as a gun shot is considered a "flying peril" which is not covered under my policy. I can't believe it. There have only been 3 gun incidents in my city in the past 2 years and just one involving a car which just so happens to be my car which I was parking for the winter. :(
So if a rock goes through your windshield, they won't pay for the damage? If you have comprehensive insurance on your car, then your insurance company seems to be reinventing the rules. :shake At least in the US, comprehensive coverage, "is an all-risks coverage designed to cover damage to or loss of the insured motor vehicle from any cause except those falling within collision coverage", according to the Insurance Services Office, Inc. :deal

Oh, my bad. You really meant "back light". I thought you meant "backlight", which is another term for back window. I was married to an Englander for a while, so I've got an English as a second language thing going on.

For my white Geo, I have the full maximum coverage possible, as that is the one I drive all the time. I certainly hope that includes gun shots. However, for my blue one, I wasn't planning on driving it for the fall/winter. It's the car I've been working on, and wanted to pass on to my son next year as he is now finally old enough to get his learner's license. I had cleaned it all up last week and had parked it for the winter. :cold So I didn't have comprehensive on it anymore - I wasn't going to be driving or using it at all until the spring, and as a single parent, I was trying to keep everything affordable.

That being said, I did have more insurance coverage on it than most people would for just parking their car, as I still had it insured to drive (although no intention to do so) and made sure I had additional Fire and Theft, just in case.

I've never known anyone who has had their car shot by a bullet before. Just on TV in the news, and never ever in my city. Completely unheard of where I live. This sort of thing never happens here.

Well - that's how I know those Chinese zodiac things are completely false. It says I'm a rabbit - "The luckiest of all the signs". Ya right! lol
