Hey Buck, don't have any past 96, and that's one year past the rest. fuel starved, increasing in frequency as related to time of operation. (side bar;cant believe you have not installed a fuel filter under the hood). sure sounds like a plug somewhere, or maybe a return line or another 'ghost'. ?bad vac line to tank? Hmmm> more info? |

My daughters 99 does something similar, once in awhile, take off, 1st is fine, 2nds good, hit 3rd, no throttle, let off the gas, hit it again, it's fine, the only thing that I haven't replaced yet is the TPS, could that be the cause? It's set correctly, but sometimes I get weird readings from it.. Prolly gonna replace it when she comes out next week, Can't find one at a JY, AZ wants $160 bucks, but at least it will correct it or not, the original one has like 210,000 mi on it.. I'll let ya know if that fixes it or not.. |

Here is what the 98 FSM has for fuel system diagnosis. Looks like the fuel pressure is higher in newer cars than the older ones. Hope it helps in some way.![]() ![]()

I'm back, so the question remains how does it run with the gas cap off? You can address the codes issue later, let's make it run right first. If the system works right around town but fouls up on the highway what is different? The car requires more fuel at highway speeds. The exhaust system heats the fuel tank more on the highway. Less fuel is returned to the tank on the highway. The cooling system works harder on the highway, a plugged radiator works fine in town and overheats on the highway. Just saying, I have been doing this for a very long time. Does the fuel tank build pressure on the highway or vacuum? Please start there. |

B I N G O !!!! Took awhile but I think that was it. Ordered a rebuilt injector from the rock & installed it about a month ago. Been driving around town like normal. Went to see my son today up in Fairfax (up I 95) Screaming along @ 60-65 mph & no issues. About an hour & 15 min drive up. 2 hrs back with sitting in traffic on I 95 at 2pm. No wreaks, just traffic. 2 pm, go figure. Anyways, I think "WE" got it figured out. Thanks for all the help. If it turns out to not be fixed, I'll let everybody know. Or not.

The "failing" injector is very hard to diagnose since it is an intermittent problem between the time it is performing correctly and the time it finally dies completely. It can run sweet as a new car during this period, so there is no way to diagnose it until you are stuck on the roadside. Glad you got it fixed. |

UPDATE Almost two years later, and it's still healed. No more issues. Runs like a top. |
