hello everybody. I'm Bagels. I joined the forum a while ago but have not been very active unfortunately, but recently I have started moding my car and I just thought I would share it with the rest of my metro family. I will try to do at least a little something to it every weekend but we'll see how that goes. A little background on Metra. I got her for $1400 a little over a year ago. I know the price is a little high for her but I don't really mind because I love her so much. I have had newer and higher end cars in the past but none of them have made me as happy as she does. I had to replace both axels, the driver side tie rod, both rotors, the bearings, and I did other basic maintenance stuff when I got her. so far I have spent about $400 on parts and the labor was free because I did it all myself. I still need to replace my front and rear struts, repair a small oil leak I have, and replace a stud I busted because I over tightened It, but overall at 160xxx miles on a 20+ year old car I'm not complaining. just recently I got a little more on the non mechanical stuff and started tearing out my back seat and paneling and I put in a false floor. I also stripped the paint and started rusting the outside with "unicorn piss" my friends special speed rust formula. I have a vision for how I want my car to look and I think the road will be long and hard but fun. on the inside I would like to finish paneling up the back for now and eventually mod the seat area some more and on the outside I will be spray painting some stencil work randomly. I still need to take down the galvanization some more as the rust is not taking everywhere as I would like it to. anyhow here are a few pics of what I have done so far and I will be posting more as I do stuff to it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I guess you got tired of California's rust-free climate? What is that stuff? Hydrofluoric acid? Sulfuric? I hope you're wearing some protective gear! It doesn't etch the glass or eat plastic? I'm interested to see the end result. Unique, for sure. Are you going to mount brush bars and spikes to it? Go for the Mad Max look? Give it a good dust bath when you're done.

I am indeed going for a mad max look. I will be adding quite a few things to it but not sure what just yet. Its a process. Edit: btw "unicorn piss" is a mixture of saltwater, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide so it's completely biodegradable and it works extremely well. Edited by bagelskill, Aug 18 2015, 06:01 PM.

I'm more impressed with the stripper. I thought relatively modern paints would be immune to that stuff. What kind did you use? |

We sanded down the clear coat a little bit first and just used this stuff http://www.homedepot.com/p/Klean-Strip-1-gal-KS-3-Premium-Stripper-GKS3/100144685 We used about half of a gallon. update: sanded down the stuff that was not rusting properly and re-sprayed it. will post the rust results tomorrow. ![]()

i could probably do this here in arizona and the car would last for just as long with paint. i would let it oxidize naturally tho, even tho it would probably take 2-3 years to even turn color. so when the rust settles down are you going toclean up the plastics and make it look really nice? or just let it do its thing? |
