At least ask a dealership what they may or may not charge to help you get it re-programmed if it isn't an error unrelated to the LOCK feature. It still may be cheaper than getting a new one. You mean a Chevy dealership, right? |

I think I found one for you. if you can post a picture so I can be sure it is the same. it is a stock radio, but not sure if it is what you want. |

Yes. The "hotline" to get an alternate code is for all Gm dealers, but I don't know if other types besides Chevy could get one. You may also want to call first to see what they think they can/can't do and what they might charge. I would also consider Sphenicie's offer - it may be the easiest option of all of them.

I got mine on eBay for $25, and that included shipping! I think I got a deal on it. I've seen them over $50 with shipping. There was one on ebay recently, stock Delco, with AM/FM, Tape AND CD. The style that came only in Trackers/Prizms, and optional in '93 convertibles. It's only $225!

Nice, pay $4.50 for something you can get for free. |

The one "unknown" is that you stated you are displaying some type of "error" message and not the standard 'LOC" message. I just called two of your local Chevy dealers in Ft. Wayne to ask what they would charge. Summit said it's something that would normally cost roughly $50, and Crumback (love that name!) said it could be anywhere from $35-75 depending on how easy they can get it unlocked, meaning if they can hook their computer up to it and get it to unlock it would be quicker, but if they have to pull the radio to get numbers and call the factory to get alternate codes it could be as much as $75 or so. I imagine that Summit was describing the same process and roughly the same costs. Kelley sent me to voice mail so I didn't bother to leave a message. If it were a matter of only being locked (not an error), and considering it appears an alternate unlock code can't be obtained "for free," you may want to consider throwing $4.50 at it. Otherwise a new to you radio from Sphenicie or someone may be the most cost effective solution. ![]() |

i was a saab entusiast for years and eventually gravitated towards their more modern cars while i restored a couple hundred of their vinatge cars. clarion made the high end radios for saabs in the late 80s and 90s and if you were unlucky enough to get a code lock on one of their radios without having the correct code (maybe due to the radio having been changed by a previous owner) the only way you could recover the radio was to send it out and have an eprom with a new lock code replaced. it cost a shop $35 and the radio shop that did the work charged $50 if you couldn't prove you were with an auto repair shop. if, indeed, the radio you are dealing with was original to the car, you might get a chevy dealer's parts counter guys to go back by vin and get the code. |
